Gender and its Role in Education
It was observed that gender roles initially started in education and permeates in
different aspects of society like inside a classroom, and communication types.
Fundamentally, this issue affects children and how they will adapt in a given
society. Through communication, instructional aids and similar chances among
boys and girls will be accomplished in order to gain better learning (Ivy &
Backlund, 2008).
It should noted that women these days are having higher level of education
compared to men, however, they still believe that women population are not
receiving the same amount of salaries as compared to men.
In primary education, a lot of teachers give more their attention to males because
of their character. Hence, teachers interact more with boys than girls for them to
better learn and give focus to discussion (Phillips & Phillips, 2010). Another, a
lot of males are under the special education programs compared to females
because of their behavior and masculine characters, which can lead to improper
behavior inside the room (Sapiro, 2003).
Instructors usually deal with gender-based communication by letting boys to
interact more than girls (Sapiro, 2003). Girls feel indifferent during mathematics
and science which can influence badly in the learning surrounding of women (Ivy
& Backlund, 2008). There also books which have gender biases in terms of
potrayal of the role of girls and boys in a society, this produces inequality among
them (Phillips & Phillips, 2010). On this, gender roles can be shaped in
primary education in different ways and instructors are dealing more with gender-
based actions, which they don’t take notice of.
3. Gender Norms in regard to Government, Laws, and Policies
The government, social laws and policies have a huge impact on how beliefs and
values on gender roles are being shaped. In the government, there are three
factors that should be given consideration with regard to gender roles and issues
like taxation, jury duty and military service. In terms of taxation, male and female
should pay taxes. But in terms of jury duty, there is a bias to women because they
are asked to serve, and are not qualified to have a say on death penalties, the
samr with criminal punishment (Sapiro, 2003). In terms of military, male and female
are given the right to serve but women are not deployed to war zo
