What kind of media institution
might distribute your media
product and why?
Who distributed love actually
Love actually had several distributers that
fund in Romantic Comedies as they see
potential within them.
According to IMDB love actually were
funded and distributed by Universal
Pictures, Studio Canal and working title
pictures which are all known for having a
foothold in various genres of film, in this
case RomComs.
Who are the specilist distruibuters that work with
RomComs?
‘The numbers’ website tells us that there is alot of
demand on romantic comedies, whether they are
cartoon or real life.
the leading Producers and distributers are Disney,
MGM and Sony, Seeing their films gross around half
a billion pound each (the most successful films such
as ‘Pretty Women’ 1990.
So if I was to choose a distributer to work with me on
my film it would most probably be related to them.
Who I would choose
Even though the obvious and best choice for me is to
choose Disney Pictures but as they operate in a child
orientated market it is most unlikely that they would
take my film into consideration.
The reason for this being that my film develops dark
humour that may not be appropriate for some
viewers.
I would therefore choose Universal or MGM as they
have no problem with funding R rated film such as
‘What women want’. This would be the best route for
my film.
