Peter addresses the crowd in Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost, explaining that the disciples were not drunk but filled with the Holy Spirit as prophesied. He quotes the prophet Joel about God pouring out His Spirit on all people, including sons, daughters, young men, and old men who will prophesy, see visions, and dream dreams. The events of Pentecost marked the beginning of the fulfillment of Joel's prophecy that God would pour out His Spirit on believers.
2. 14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words: 15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day. No longer timid, but filled with the Holy Ghost, Peter stands boldly for Jesus.
3. 16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of My Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
4. The events on the Day of Pentecost after the Resurrection of Jesus, were the beginning of the fulfillment of Joel 2. "I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh:" Before this time, certain men had been especially anointed with the Holy Ghost for specific jobs .
5. But since Jesus came to die for our sins and to be resurrected from the dead in the Power of the Holy Spirit, Every believer is indwelt by God's Spirit.
6. " your sons and your daughters shall prophesy," To speak what God is saying to His people, in the Power and Anointing of the Holy Ghost, is a great blessing . Both to the speaker and to the hearers .
7. "your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:" Spiritual visions and Spiritual dreams . We must be certain that we know the difference.
8. In this day, when the church (every believer) is the body of Jesus Christ, God pours out His Spirit on every one who believes.
9. 19 And I will shew wonders in Heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke: 20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: These verses refer to a future event described in the Book of Revelation. The church will be caught up to be with the Lord, and unbelievers will remain here in terrible tribulation. That time will be followed by Jesus' triumphant return to rule the earth for 1000 years.
10. 21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord shall be saved. Shall call on the Name of the Lord.
11. God didn't say , "whosoever shall call on the Name of the Lord -- and keep the rules ." -- and get up real early. -- and stay up real late. -- and dress to impress. -- and perform miracles.
12. Just put all your faith and hope in Jesus Christ, and call on God in the Name of His Son. Saved from the bondage of sin in this life. Saved from the torments of a burning hell in the next. Spread the Good News!
