Proverbs 28 1 The wicked flee when no man
pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion.
They know that they deserve the wrath of God.
They’re afraid that they may get it.
3. 3
1b but the righteous are as bold as a lion.

4. 4
2 For the transgression of a land many are the
princes thereof: but by a man of understanding and
knowledge the state thereof shall be prolonged.
(TLB) 2 When there is moral rot within a nation,
its government topples easily; but with honest,
sensible leaders there is stability.
A nation gets the leaders it deserves.
Vile sinners don’t want an honest, sensible leader.
They want leaders who approve their sin.
5. 5
3 A poor man that oppresseth the poor is like a
sweeping rain which leaveth no food.
(TLB) 3 When a poor man oppresses those even
poorer, he is like an unexpected flood sweeping
away their last hope.
6. 6
4 They that forsake the law praise the wicked: but
such as keep the law contend with them.
When people backslide they hate the church
and praise the wicked.
Who do they hang out with?
Sinners and other backsliders.
The church will not agree with them, so they
talk mean about church-going folk.
7. 7
5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that
seek the LORD understand all things.
(TLB) 5 Evil men don’t understand the importance
of justice, but those who follow the Lord are much
concerned about it.
Liberal judges let murderers go free with only
a short time in jail.
It’s not justice, but evil men don’t value life.
They always kill again.
8. 8
6 Better is the poor that walketh in his uprightness,
than he that is perverse in his ways, though he be
rich.
Anything gained dishonestly will, in the long
run, not be a blessing.
Perverse = distorted; false; crooked
A crook thinks he is doing well (getting
something for nothing)
But he will, one day, regret it, when he is
falling and burning forever in hell.
9. 9
7 Whoso keepeth the law is a wise son: but he that
is a companion of riotous men shameth his father.
(TLB) 7 Young men who are wise obey the law; a
son who is a member of a lawless gang is a shame
to his father.
Someone may say, “My boy is a good boy, he
just fell in with a bad crowd.”
Understand: people choose the company of
people they admire and enjoy.
10. 10
8 He that by usury and unjust gain increaseth his
substance, he shall gather it for him that will pity
the poor.
(TLB) 8 Income from exploiting the poor will end
up in the hands of someone who pities them.
Sooner or later justice will come.
11. 11
9 He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law,
even his prayer shall be abomination.
The prayers of a backslider are hypocritical.
God doesn’t value their prayers;
He despises them.
