It seems in life that people in general seem to remember that bad things that happen to them over the good things that happen to them. All of us have a string of pessimism inside of us over being optimistic about most things in life.

1. Is Your Glass Half Empty or Half Full?
It seems in life that people in general seem to remember that bad
things that happen to them over the good things that happen to
them. All of us have a string of pessimism inside of us over being
optimistic about most things in life.
So is your life glass half empty or half full?
Everything that happens to us, we label it as either positive or
negative. It is either a good thing or a bad thing. If you tend to look
at everything in a good, positive or optimistic way, then your glass
is half full. If you tend to look at everything in a bad or negative,
and pessimistic way then your glass is half empty.
Most people tend to be negative three to ten times as often as they are positive. The worst part about it
is that when you think something bad is going to happen, it usually does.
Think about it. Think back on something in your life where you thought for sure something bad was
going to happen, and it did.
However, did that bad thing that happened actually turn out to be in good thing in one way or another at
a later time?
Maybe, for example, you woke up late and missed your bus and had to wait for the next one. However in
the time that you were waiting for the next bus, you started talking to someone who was also waiting
and you became great friends because of it.
Or maybe you were fired from your job and thought the whole world was falling down upon you. But
then you were offered a much better job, one that you actually liked better and enjoyed what you were
doing, that you never would have known about if you were not fired in the first place.
No matter what happens to people, or how terrible it may seems to them at the time, if you think
negatively and put a “bad” label on it, then your glass is half empty and it will most likely only get worse.
The reason people think this way about things such as these is because they have been conditioned to
think of them that way.
Some people, when faced with extreme adversity, turn things around and actually flourish while others
totally disintegrate.
The people who can turn a negative into a positive never label what they go through as “bad” and
because of this they do not agonize over it. They simply take it as a given, a part of life, and they learn
and grow from the experience, only to turn their life around again
If you never label a situation as “negative or bad,” then you will not experience it in that way.
Of course you do not want to be over positive either; the key is just not to think of a situation as
negative.

2. That is a lot different than thinking “This is bad. Really bad. But somehow I will make it work and it will
not be so bad. First you think your situation is bad. Then you think you will somehow make it less bad.
Meanwhile, you can’t help but wonder if you’re just kidding yourself. And if your situation does not turn
itself around in a hurry, you are devastated because you were over positive and not realistic about the
situation. Once again the key is to not be negative, without being overly positive.
Can you actually go through life without thinking what happens to you as “positive” or “negative”? You
certainly can, but you have to train yourself not to do it. People have been conditioned to think of what
happens to them as being either negative or positive. People can de-condition themselves. It will not
come easy, and it will not happen overnight, but it is possible to do.
And don’t feel sorry for yourself either. “Why did this happen to me? Bad things always happen to me. I
am in such pain.”
Do not pick up that useless burden. Do not label what happens to you as “negative” or feel sorry for
yourself. If you can do this, you won’t need positive thinking, and much of the stress in your life will
simply go away and your glass will be half full instead of half empty.
