                                     Network of Trainers in Europe: Key Actors in Lifelong Learning

1.1. The Department of Social Psychology was created in the 1970s forming part of the new Sociology section of the Political Sciences
Faculty of the Complutense University of Madrid that became Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology. It was the rst Spanish Social
Psychology Department.

1.1.1.The trends towards the institutionalisation of the Social sciences broke down during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939).
In the post-war up to 1970s:
1944 Creation of the Faculty of Political Sciences and Economics and Business.
1956 First student movements and growing interest in social sciences institutionalisation.
1968 More student mobilisations and cultural pressure, gave rise to the
 Faculty of Economics and Business
 Faculty of Political Sciences and Sociology.

1.2    Since the 70s

•      Sociology between functionalism and dialectics. Critical Sociology..
•      Out of 80s an exponential growth and diversification
•      From 2003, adaptation to EHEA.
•      Effects of current crisis.
•      Internationalisation

“The lessons of masters” in dark times.
The former dean, Luis González Seara, sociologist, when dealing with the origins of Faculty, pays homage to the “lessons of masters”:
the old generation of thinkers, professors who inspired the best of these movements.

More recently, sociologist Victor Pérez Díaz in his book “University: citizens, nomads” points to the
“Learning and Research communities” as a challenge in our turbulent times.
(…university teachers are made through a prolonged period of experiences and in small communities, in person-to-person
relationships,… but the fabric of these “learning and research communities” is delicate…)

3.1. Applied Research in Social Psychology Department. Main themes

•      Youth Unemployment.
•      Social Values, Citizenship
•      Organizational Studies
•      Employment and social policies analysis
•      Gender studies
•      Socio-cultural approaches to Life Long Learning.

3.2 Interdepartamental Research Groups:

•       RESEARCH GROUP “EGECO” (Employment, Gender, Social Cohesion Regimes):
Interdisciplinary research group focused on these matters , EGECO maintains a direct relationship with European researchers
and Research Centres in the field.
Every year a European Workshop is organised in which researchers from Europe and Spain participate presenting their results
 with the support of European Research Group MAGE (Marché et Genre).
