- Welcome to the training module on 1000W Medical AC-DC Power Supply. This training module will introduce SWS1000L medical AC-DC power supply.
- The SWS series is available in a large number of nominal output voltages; ranging from 3.3V, all the way to 60V. The unit can deliver 1000W over a wide AC input voltage range for worldwide use. To operate reliably in outdoor environments a wide operating temperature range is necessary. SWS1000L is designed to operate between -20 º C to 74 º C. At its max. temperature, 74 º C, 50% of the max. power rating is guaranteed. The power supply has both medical and ITE safety certification.
- The power supply carries certification to UL60601-1 and has 4000 Volts AC input to output isolation, allowing it to be used in the vicinity of patients. When used with a 115Volt AC line, the leakage current is only 100 micro amps, allowing the system designer the flexibility to incorporate other AC powered equipment without using up his leakage current "allowance". For Information Technology Equipment, the unit carries certification to UL, CSA and EN 60950-1 and of course carries the CE mark for the Low Voltage Directive. Complying fully with EN/UL60601 safety standards including low earth leakage current and reinforced isolation, SWS1000L will also meet class B EMI and is the ideal choice for your medical power needs.
- The SWS1000L comes with a great many features. They are remote sense for load cable compensation, opto isolated remote on/off, a DC Good and Fan Fail signal (also isolated from the output) and of course over current, over voltage and over temperature protection.
- Up to 5 units can be connected in parallel when the single wire current share is utilized, to obtain an output power of 4,500W. Units of course can also be used in series. The output can also be remotely programmed using an external resistance or voltage. A 12V 100 mA auxiliary supply is available to drive external circuits. Variable speed, high reliability fans are utilized in the design for both lower acoustical noise and longer fan life. Active power factor correction is incorporated into the design to meet EN61000-3-2.
- As mentioned earlier, the SWS1000L can be externally programmed over quite a wide output range. For example the SWS1000L-60 can be adjusted over an impressive 12 volt to 66V range. See the installation manual for more details. Output voltage can be varied by applying an external voltage to “PV” terminal and “COM” terminal. The SWS1000L can be used as a variable power supply for test equipment at a fraction of the price of a laboratory unit.
- A cleverly designed input terminal block incorporates captive screws and a finger guard. The captive screw design will even accept circular ring crimp tags!
- Other features of the SWS1000L is its compact size, just 2.4" by 5.91" by 9.45“, so it can be mounted in 2U or smaller locations. The compact size is ideal for application including electronic display, vending machines and self service kiosks. It has a 3 year warranty, meets MIL-STD-810F shock and vibration, weights only 2.3kg and meets the EN61000-4 immunity tests.

- The SWS1000L can be configured as series operation. To increase output voltage, two series configurations are used as shown in the figures. The left configuration is for one load, the right one for two loads that are in series as well.
- Two methods are used to configure the SWS1000L in parallel operation. Connect the two PC terminals together and the two COM terminals together. The current balancing function activates and output current of each power supply is equivalently supplied to load. Wires to PC terminals, COM terminals shall be as short as possible. It is also important to use same length and to have them twisted. This configuration is shown on the left diagram. The right diagram shows the power supplies being used as a backup power supply. When one of power supply fails, the remaining non-failure power supplies continue to maintain the output.
