Motivation Waves
Our Motivation experiences peaks and troughs,
           just like the Economy




Stanford Psychologist BJ Fogg calls this pattern a
               Motivation Wave
Healthy Behaviors
We can use high periods of motivation waves to simplify
and set up healthy behaviors like:


              Exercising 3 days per week,

               Sleeping 8 hours per day,

               or Eating 1 fruit everyday.
Riding the Motivation Wave

Imagine your smart phone knew when you were
experiencing Motivation ups and downs.


Having Mobile Technology track our motivation waves
could drastically improve our health habits!
How to Track Motivation?

        To Detect Motivation Ups and Downs,
      we need a way to measure Motivation itself.


However, Motivation is an abstract variable that can’t be
                physically measured.



   But it also depends on other measurable variables.
My guess is...


We can get a good motivation estimate by measuring and
         analyzing 10+ physical variables that
            affect and reflect our motivation
Estimating our Motivation

  These ‘shadow variables’ fall into 4 categories


                     Sleep
                   Nutrition
                  Movement
             & Use of Technology

Sleep Quality
       A good night sleep can bring your motivation up.
                       And Vice Versa.
       Measured with a Wristband and/or a mobile app.

  • 2. Motivation Waves Our Motivation experiences peaks and troughs, just like the Economy Stanford Psychologist BJ Fogg calls this pattern a Motivation Wave
  • 3. Healthy Behaviors We can use high periods of motivation waves to simplify and set up healthy behaviors like: Exercising 3 days per week, Sleeping 8 hours per day, or Eating 1 fruit everyday.
  • 4. Riding the Motivation Wave Imagine your smart phone knew when you were experiencing Motivation ups and downs. Having Mobile Technology track our motivation waves could drastically improve our health habits!
  • 5. How to Track Motivation? To Detect Motivation Ups and Downs, we need a way to measure Motivation itself. However, Motivation is an abstract variable that can’t be physically measured. But it also depends on other measurable variables.
  • 6. My guess is... We can get a good motivation estimate by measuring and analyzing 10+ physical variables that affect and reflect our motivation
