2. RULE OF THIRDS
Rules of thirds is when a grid is used
to divide the photo into three halves.
It is used to divide the divisions of the
photo so the focal point is in the
intersection.
I think this rule makes photos look
more effective because the focus is on
one side of the photograph where the
viewer will look straight away and will
be drawn to it.
3. FRAMING
Framing is a technique used to bring
focus to the subject in the photo.
A frame is used in the foreground of
the picture, however it is not seen as
the foreground because it is framing
where the viewer is supposed to see
the main subject in the picture.
4. LEADING LINES
This is a technique used to take
you from the foreground to the
background of a photograph.
This is more effective when used
in landscape shots because you
can see the technique performed
clearly.
This example has used a dutch tilt
shot which in my opinion makes
the photograph very effective
because the viewer will have to
concentrate on the photo to see
the different elements within it.
5. BALANCING ELEMENTS
The balancing elements technique is
similar to rules of third however
something is used on the other side
to even out the photo.
It is when you balance the weight of
the subject by including another
object of a lesser importance to fill
the space.
6. SYMMETRY & PATTERNS
This technique mainly uses the centre
of the frame because this is where the
photo looks more symmetrical to the
viewer, therefore it doesn’t use the rule
of thirds. Using the centre of the
photograph creates a strong focal point
if it’s a mirror image.
I think this technique is effective if you
want something to stand out because
the mirrored effect looks striking and
eye catching.
7. DEPTH OF FIELD
Depth of field technique is when a photo
changes unsharp to sharp.
The focus is usually central therefore it can
be seen straight away to the viewer.
Another photography rule that is similar to
depth of field is shallow depth of field.
Thnis is when the majority of the photo is
a lot out of focus and there is only a bit of
the image that is focused.
