  1. The emirate of Dubai is located south east of the Persian Gulf on the Arabian Peninsula and is one of the seven emirates in the country. It has the largest population in the UAE Dubai and Abu Dhabi are the only two emirates to have veto power over critical matters of national importance in the country's legislature.  Specifically, the tourism in Dubai is the main priority of the economy, and eco-tourism has emerged as a reaction to the rapid-scale development which put many of the country's coastal and desert habitats under threat, and the government has begun implementing conservation programs to preserve Dubai's wildlife as well as its Islamic cultural heritage. Though, eco-tourism in the UAE is a relatively new policy and yet many of the local tour agencies and tour operators do not follow the eco-tourism direction, it did not prevent the UAE to take the path of green tourism and use natural resources in a sustainable way.
  2. Details of Dubai’s international tourist arrivals since 1998 are contained in Table 1 and reveal it to be one of the fastest growing destinations worldwide but earnings from tourism exceeded US$1 billion and surpassed oil revenues that year to directly and indirectly account for over 17% and 28% of GDP respectively. leisure was the main motive for 75% of visits to Dubai in 2003.Dubai’s tourism figures are at an all-time high as new figures reveal that the sector contributed 31 per cent of the emirate’s GDP in 2011
  3. The start point of the development of tourism industry was maintained by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), which was created in 1989 and since that time is responsible for tourism planning, development and marketing. The Department has a vision of Dubai as the ‘leading tourism destination and commercial hub in the world’. A major achievement in the field of sustainable tourism was when the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing launched a "Green Tourism Award" program to lead the development and proliferation of eco-tourism within a region. The Dubai Green Tourism Awards 2011 are also designed to encourage investment in sustainable management practices among its membership, the hotels of Dubai.  Below there are several practices the members use today:
  4. The first internationally-recognized and fully-protected conservation area in the Middle East was created in Dubai. Winner of the World Travel Market Conservation Award 2003, the Dubai’s Desert Conservation Reserve is situated in Al Maha Desert Resort, an elegant eco-tourism desert resort. IS sponsored by Emirates Airline. In addition, this resort has a great opportunity to provide visitors with special excursions into the desert; including falconry and guided horse, nature walks and sand skiing, traveling to ancient archaeological sites are quite famous pastime for green tourists.
  5. From this period, the importance was paid to the construction of green hotels and their sustainable exploitation. One of these projects is ‘Discus’ underwater eco-friendly hotel. This eco-friendly hotel is considering as the factor for boosting new wave of tourism within a region.
  6. With Islam as its official religion, Dubai, also is a place for religoius tourism, and is attracted by many muslims annually. There are presently something around 188 mosques in Dubai, One of this mosques will be the largest eco-friendly mosque which is expected to reduce energy and water consumption by 15-19 per cent in Dubai by 2013. This is the first green mosque all the way in the Middle East. This will become the standard for all the mosques in the future.According to the foundation, the mosque will feature green spaces, particularly gardens on the roof for heat insulation. It will additionally use thermal insulation, programmed and automatic thermostat, suction fans with energy recovery units, and natural light and heat-reflective colours, especially at the interfaces and roofs.
  7. AMAF aims to transform a large number of mosques in Dubai to eco-friendly mosques and adopt green building standards to contribute to Dubai’s sustainable development plans.”
  8. Dubai is the best place for such activities as leisure, schopping, eco-tourism activities and etc. Nowadays the adventure tourism is reached a level of development that has a high value in countries with favorable climate and natural resources. Snorkeling, scuba diving and wreck diving allow a close-up encounter with Dubai's marine life. Land-based adventures include desert safaris, "wadi-bashing" and dune skiing, as well as hiking tours in the Hajar Mountains.
  9. The Exploration of the authentic arab culture is the part of ecotourism experience. Being in the place tourists can take a tour to a Bedouin village and learn about the traditional way of life, or they can visit one of the historic sites and monuments that tourism revenue helps preserve. visitors can participate in moonlight street barbecues, with the opportunity to sample local cuisine and enjoy native entertainments. Falconry displays are also part of Dubai's cultural tradition
  10. Dubai has such a beautiful and unique nature, that could be summarized to a natural paradise for all kind of tourists. For instance, birdwatching is one of the more eco-friendly endeavors for tourist, which is very popular here. Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuaries is part of the first phase of a project to promote Dubai's eco-tourism. Khor Dubai is home to Western Reef Heron, flamingos and spotted eagles. There are more than 400 bird species in the UAE, according to the Government of Dubai. Today is in great request the special green desert tours, offering opportunities for photographing wildlife, including Arabian Oryx, caracal, hyenas and desert foxes, as well as capturing desert landscapes and beautiful sunsets.
  11. tourism creates new forms of entertainment and attractions which are higly valued by green tourists and makes a significant contribution to the economy. Dubai Dolphinarium, for instance, was created and developed to provide entertainment, education and environmental beauty for local residents and foreign visitors. Deep sea fishing is an exciting activity pursued in the waters of Dubai. Even recently, International Golf Travel Market selected Dubai as "Destination of the Year" for Africa, Gulf States & the Indian Ocean.
  12. The Ubited Arab Emirates International airline is based in Dubai and operates scheduled services to 58 destinations. An essential fact is the Emirates airline maintains its leading position in the industry in terms of fuel efficiency due to its young, technologically-advanced fleet. Emirates fuel efficiency results  are more than 25% better than the IATA global fleet average. The airline has therefore partnered with various air navigation authorities around the world to test the most eco-efficient flight routings.
  13. Dubai not only has the necessary natural resources, but also is able to use them for their intended purpose. Eco-tourists are highly motivated to get and stay there, due to the range of favorable eco-conditions. At destination, eco-tourists have the opportunity to stay in a green accommodation (e.g new eco-sustainable hotels and villas), can enjoy the eco-friendly activities and visit ecological resorts, at the same time they may experience authentic culture and follow local traditions, visit heritage sites and participate in national celebrations and holidays. To staying in unspoiled wildlife area, as in the case of Al Maha, can be the main purpose of visiting by green tourists in Dubai.
  14. In conclusion, Dubai is a well-known shopping paradise and business hub destination, but now Dubai is unveiling its eco-tourism face. "Eco-tourism, another main attraction in Dubai's tourism industry, aims to attract tourists, such as bird watchers, scientists, researchers and students from within the country and abroad," said Hamdan Al Shaer, director of the environment department at the municipality. the ecotourism recently entered the life of the UAE, but was able to quickly identify the right direction and just follow the desired perspective. It is crucial, that Dubai has all the necessary resources for the further development of eco-tourism such as; the support from the government, financial resources, needed natural and environmental resources, high technology and the desire to practice ecotourism.
