2. Introduction
• R/3 is designed as a OLTP (Online transaction
processing) system and not an analytical and
reporting system.
• BW provides much better performance and
stronger data analysis and reporting capabilities
than R/3.
• Costume made or third party reporting and
analysis applications is another interesting
option for their user-friendliness, flexibility, and
efficiency, as can be seen in the following
examples:

4. Examples
• Margin Analysis: Reads sales data from SD
module, cost of goods sold from CO Module,
saves data in a SQL flat table and produces
margin analysis in different dimensions and
units.
• Executive Presentations: Reads SAP
(FI,CO,MM,SD, etc…) ,stores data in a local flat
SQL tables, and presents it based on user
defined Menus,Indicators, and graphics.
• Payment Tracking: Given PO or Invoice number
a supplier can track the status of his payment
online.

developing costume solution or using third party
products is an option that is worth considering
given the requirements of the client and the
solution conceived by the the consultant.
