1. Letters From A Small Island... (Somewhere)!
Occasional musings, tips, tricks and tactics about internet marketing (plus what
I'm up to and other stuff about generally hanging out on various exotic islands,
making money...and stuff).

Hi folks,
Hope all is good with you and yours.
2. It's been a nice week here in Cyprus this last week and with the sun shining,
Lyn and I decided to take ourselves off and work from one of our favourite
'work places' on the island.
Here we are hard at work, thanks to that wonderful invention, the iPad! ...
And here's the view from where we were working...
You can see why we like it so much. That's what's so great about this
business, being able to work from different locations. That's why it's a
business that's worth getting into. worth the blood sweat and tears to make
it happen and make it work for you.
I know what it can be like to battle rush hour traffic both to and from work
every day and it's not something I want to go back to any time soon.
Anyway...
Here we are with this Sunday's edition of 'Letters From A Small Island'.
3. This issue is called...
"Don't Be Like Most People!"
Read on to find out more....
People sit and wonder why success hasn't happened for them yet. Why
they're not making any money, or enough money yet. Well, let me share
something with you...
Here's the thing...
You will be rewarded by the value you deliver to your target market.
If you are not making enough money yet, it's because you are not
delivering enough value to your market yet.
Read that sentence again, because there is so much power in that statement
and it is fundamental to your success. Seriously.
Do you even know who your perfect target client or customer is? What kind
of person they are? What ideas, thoughts, problems and aspirations they
have? Have you taken the time to sit down and REALLY consider who your
perfect customer or client actually is? Get inside their head and get to know
them? Write out a profile of them? If you don't know who you are trying to
target, how can you market to them?
Most people, most of your competitors won't bother putting in the effort to
do that. Don't be like most people.
You need to be everywhere your ideal customers hang out,
.....everywhere.
So where are they? Do you know?
What forums are they on? Join those forums and start providing useful tips
and advice, without ever trying to sell anything, but have your signature
lead to your website or sales page in a very compelling way.
4. Become known on the forums as a genuine, knowledgeable and helpful
advisor. Find people asking questions and answer as many as you can. This
is a damn good way to become well known in your niche. If people keep
seeing you popping up on the top forums, your name will soon be in their
minds as a player in their marketplace. Someone who knows their stuff.
Someone whose advice should be listened to.
Take the time to spend, say, an hour a day doing this and it will begin to pay
off for you. Not only will you start to become known in your niche, you will
also begin to understand your market more. You will discover what main
problems and questions they have etc. Most people, most of your
competitors, won't do that. Don't be like most people.
Is your perfect target customer contactable by direct mail? Can you rent a
direct mail list? Make them an offer that is so compelling they'd be daft to
ignore it? Most people won't take the trouble or time to even investigate that
possibility. Don't be like most people.
What magazines, newsletters and newspapers do your audience read? Does
that media have ads targeted at your audience? Are your competitors
advertising there and are their ads appearing repeatedly? If so, it's likely
that they are seeing a return on those ads.
Are you advertising there and grabbing your share of that audience? Most
people will not even test an ad or two in those places. Many will not even try
to negotiate ad prices and they will just take standard rate-card prices that
are quoted to them. Don't be like most people.
What keywords are your audience using when they are searching for
information? Do you have a list of those keywords? Have you researched
them? What content do you have out there that targets those keywords with
articles, press releases, videos, blog posts on your own or other people's
blogs etc? Have you laid out a plan to follow to get your content out there?
Most people don't have a plan to follow. Don't be like most people.
What websites are your target audience visiting? Can you advertise on that
website? Does that website owner have a list of subscribers? Can you do a
joint venture with the website owner? Pay for them to do a solo ad to his/her
list, maybe? (HINT: Most people buying solo ads are only buying from
overcrowded and over-used solo ad websites, when they could have far
more success and better quality leads by simply approaching website owners
directly, or getting someone to do that for them. Don't be like most
people.
5. Make sense?
You don't have to only approach the top listed sites in a niche either. There
are tons of small to medium sites in every niche, many of whom will have
lists of newsletter readers or subscribers. Collectively, the number of people
you could reach by putting out a solo ad to a few of these sites can be as big
as, or bigger than if you were able to do a solo with a major site in the
niche.
These site or blog owners are more likely to agree to sell you a solo ad too.
Granted you are going to get a fair few saying no and at that point most
people would give up. However, those that continue to find and approach
site owners to buy a banner ad placement, or a solo ad email to their lists,
will be the ones who ultimately get seen in more places by their target
audience and therefore make more sales, get more clients and customers
etc.
Most people, most of your competitors, won't do that. Don't be like most
people.
Most people want to look for excuses for their lack of success. Don't be like
most people.
If, next week, I asked most people who have read my advice above, what
bits they have actually implemented to help towards their success, most
people would have to admit that they'd done bugger all. Don't be like
most people.
In case you didn't read this twice earlier, here it is again....
You will be rewarded by the value you deliver to your target market.
If you are not making enough money yet, it's because you are not
delivering enough value to your market yet.
Someone wiser than me once said, "Most people live lives of quiet
desperation and go to the grave with their song still in them."
Don't be like most people.
The person responsible for your success is the person who stares back at
you from the mirror every morning!
Nuff said!
