2. Chapter 1 Philip Marlowe meets the
Sternwoods. General
Sternwood is a
millionaire and has two
daughters, Vivian and
Carmen. The first is
intelligent but cruel and
the second is just a
selfish and stupid child.
General Sternwood
wants the detective
Marlowe to get a
blackmailer off his back.
Also he wants to know
where is Rusty Regan,
the husband of one of
his daughters, who
disappeared a month
ago. And he wants to
know who is Mr Arthur
Geiger.

3. Chapter 2
Marlowe went to Geiger’s bookstore,
but he wasn’t there. So he waited to
Geiger in the store. While he was
there he met a man who had a
suspicious packet. Then Marlowe
followed him and saw that he had
pornography in that packet. Geiger’s
store was a library of ugly dirt.

4. The detective watched Geiger’s
Chapter 3 store. After a while Geiger left
his store and Marlowe followed
him to the house. There the
detective heard a terrible
scream and three shots. He
entered the house and saw that
there had two people, one of
them dead. The detective saw
Carmen sitting in the chair and
Geiger was on his back on the
floor. He was dead. Philip found
a Geiger’s notebook with a lot of
names in it and put it on his
pocket.
Marlowe took Carmen to
Sternwood’s house.
Geiger’s body wasn’t there when
Marlowe returned in to the
house after taking Carmen.

5. Bernie Ohls call Marlowe to
tell him that one of the
Chapter 4 sternwood’s cars is lying in
the sea off Lido Pier and
there is a guy in it. He was
the Sternwood’s chauffeur,
Owen Taylor. Ohls told the
detective that Taylor
wanted to marry Carmen.
Marlowe entered that General
Sternwood had paid Joe
Brody five thousand dollars
to leave Carmen alone.
Mrs Regan went to Mr
Marlowe’s office. She
showed him a photograph
of Carmen. She was sitting
in Geiger’s chair, in her ear-
rings and nothing else.
There is a person who
blackmailer Vivian. He
asked five thousand dollars
for tonight. The detective
borrowed it from Eddie
Mars

6. Chapter 5
Philip Marlowe went to
Geiger’s house to check
de garage. There he saw
Carmen Sternwood and
she was looking for the
photograph. The detective
asks her who killed
Geiger and her answered
Joe Brody. Suddenly
Eddie Mars appeared in
the house and spoke with
Marlowe.

7. Chapter 6
Philip arrived at Joe Brody’s
apartment and there he
asked where are the
photographs. Joe had a
gun and her friend Agnes
too. Then Carmen
appeared there with a
gun and pushed into
Brody’s face. After some
problems Marlowe has all
three guns and took the
photographs in his
pocket.

8. Chapter 7
When Joe Brody and Marlowe were talking, the
detective discovered that Owen Taylor shot
Geiger and took the film out of the camera.
Brody took the film from Taylor but he didn’t kill
him.
Suddenly the door-bell rang and Joe opened the
door and then there were two shots. Brody dead.
Philip saw that the man who kills Brody is the boy
from Geiger’s store, Carol Lundgren. Both went
to Geiger and Carol’s house and found Geiger’s
body in Carol’s room.
The detective calls Ohls.

9. Chapter 8
Eddie Mars called
Marlowe and told
him that if he wants
to know anything
about Rusty Regan
he has got to ask
Eddie.
Philip called Mrs
Regan and told her
that he had the
photos.

10. Chapter 9
Gregory told Marlowe that Ragan had disappeared on
September 16th. His car was found a few days later,
near Mrs Mona Mars’s apartment. She had disappeared,
too. Eddie Mars and Mona had separated before she
disappeared. Mr Marlowe doesn’t think that Eddie was
​
Regan’s killer. All these things made him think that Rusty
Regan has left his rich wife for Mona Mars. Mrs Regan
plays roulette at Eddie’s club and she knows him very
well. Her husband has run off with Eddie’s wife.
The detective went to see Eddie Mars, but he didn’t told
him much.

11. Chapter 10 Marlowe was in Eddie
Mars’s club talking with
Vivian. In the middle of
the conversation they
kissed but then she got
mad at him because he
asked her about Eddie all
the time.
When the detective came
to his house, in his
bedroom there was
Carmen with no clothing.
He asked her to go
away.

12. Chapter 11 Harry Jones, Agnes’s friend,
went to the Marlowe’s office
to tell Philip a true that he
knows. ‘Eddie Mars is
Regan’s killer’. The
detective didn’t believe him.
Jones knows where Eddie’s
wife is and that information
interested Marlowe.
Also Jones told Philip that
Lash Canino does jobs for
Eddie Mars. He is a killer
and one day Joe saw him
talking to Regan’s wife.

13. Chapter 12 Marlowe talked with Agnes by
phone and she told him the
story. One Sunday Joe and
Agnes were driving when
they saw Eddie Mars’s wife
with Canino in another car.
Joe followed the car to a
small garage, which is
owned by a man called Art
Huck, and a house. Mona is
in that house said later.
Marlowe went to the house
and talk with Art Huck and
Canino. One of them hit
Marlowe.

14. Chapter 13 There is a woman and
nobody else in the
house. She was Mona
Mars and she helped
Marlowe to escaped.
She said that Eddie
didn’t killed Rusty
Regan. She was in
love with Eddie.
Marlowe got into
Canino’s car and shot
him four times.

15. Chapter 14 Mr Marlowe went to
General Sternwood’s
house and he asked him
to found Rusty. Then he
saw Carmen and she
asked Philip to teach her
how to shoot. Marlowe
accepts.
When he was a few metres
from her, she showed
and pointed the gun at
him. Marlowe walked
towards her and the gun
fell to the ground.

16. Chapter 15
Carmen is the killer and Vivian knew all the
things. Carmen Killed Rusty because she
got into his bed and he threw her out of it.
That makes her very angry and decides to
kill him.
