2. Front Cover
The front cover of this album denotes a black
and white picture of a man and a woman, but
connotes the black and white as binary opposites.
The majority of the front cover is occupied by the
picture of the two artists, establishing an image
which the audience will recognise in future releases.
The band name is relatively small in comparison to
the images, but is again a recurring theme of black
and white suggesting an album which is, effectively
black and white (simple, understated, classic).
The first person in this image is looking up and away
from the camera, whereas the second person is
looking forward and connecting with the audience,
again using the theme of binary opposites.
3. Inside Cover
The inside cover denotes a red apple within
white tree branches. However, the colour red could
signify danger/ mystery, possibly suggesting that
this album is not what audiences would expect
from Savage Garden. The apple could also have
religious connotations regarding Adam and Eve
and the temptation to eat an apple from the
Garden of Eden. The colour in this picture is used
to stand out and be different from the theme of
black and white, possibly used to deliberately
confuse the audience. The picture of the apple
also occupies the majority of this inside
cover, making the audiences focus on the image
and think about it’s meaning.
4. Disk
The disk continues the theme from the inside
cover with the black and white colours and also
sticks with the bright red/orange colour of the
apple on the inside cover. The whole disk is a
bright red/orange colour, again connoting danger/
mystery, leaving the audience possibly intrigued
and wanting to listen to the CD. The name of the
band is repeated on this disk using the same
image as the front cover, again reflecting binary
opposites. The disk is very simple and no images
are used, possibly suggesting the music style of the
band and their personalities
5. Back Cover
On the back cover we notice that colour is no longer
used and the colour scheme has reverted back to
black and white, reflecting the theme of the front
cover. It is also noticeable that on the outside
covers there is no colour used, but is used on the
inside suggesting a story which is told through the
album and also the songs within this album. The
back cover denotes a white background with the
names of songs within black squares. However, it
connotes a darker side of this album, creating
further mystery and intrigue. Apart from the two
images of the artists and the apple, the only other
image is that of a small skull in the bottom left
hand corner, reflecting the darker scene created
by the black highlighted words.
