3. Introduction
Raymond Luis Ayala Rodriguez, known as Daddy
Yankee, is a reggaeton singer, actor, film producer, radio
host and Puerto Rican businessman.
The native language of Daddy Yankee is Spanish.
Daddy Yankee is dubbed as the big boss and cangri.
His greatest achievement is considered to have
popularized (with Don Omar) reggaeton in Latin
America, Spain and several non-Spanish speaking
countries. His album ‘Barrio Fino’ catapulted him to
international level and made him win several awards as
Billboard Latin Music in 2005 and 2006, also best Latin
Rhythm Album of the year 2011, Best Soloist of the year
soloist and a Latin Grammy Award in 2006.
4. Development
Reggaeton is a music genre that comes from
reggae, which developed first in Latin
America, and was born and emerged from the
Jamaican community. It originates from its
predecessor reggae in Spanish.
The origins of reggaeton began with the first
recordings of reggae made in Panamaso. Early
reggaeton begins to spread in 1990, with
Spanish rap songs. The fusion of reggae rhythm
and rap in Spanish led to a merger that has
evolved into what we now know as reggaeton.
5. REGGAETON’S FEATURES
Reggaeton is based on a rhythmic style
characterized by regular cuts on background
music, accompanied by several rhythm, which
support different styles like dance, hall and reggae
roots. They have a synchronization feature rhythm
by which most of the songs is guided. Just as
reggaeton continues to evolve, so does the rate
Dembow, and many of the recent success of
reggaeton incorporate a lighter rhythm and
ornaments of electronic music. The letters of
support are characterized by the rhymeto and make
the song catchy and easy to identify.
6. Summary
The stage name of Raymond Ayala has the following meaning:
Daddy: this term is used as daddy or dad; Yankee in Puerto Rico
because this term is used to denote something big and
strong, being the big daddy the meaning of his stage name.
Daddy yankee shot to fame with his album Barrio Fino in 2005
with ‘What happened, happened’ and ‘Gasoline’. 2 years later he
released another album called ‘The Big Boss’ impact among their
songs stand out ‘Impacto’ and ‘Ella me levantó’ in 2008.
Neighborhood brings talent to the songs. ‘Pose’, ‘Emergency
call’, and ‘I have to do’ and are launched in 2010, another world
record Daddy Yankee songs.
Daddy Yankee has participated in many remixes together with:
Don Omar, Farruko, J Alvarez, Prince Royce, Baby Rasta &
Gringo, Ñengo flow, Arcangel, Kendo Kaponi, Tito El
Bambino, Jory, Wisin and Yandel, Tony Dize, Alexis and Fido
among others.
8. Personal Opinion
In our opinion, Daddy Yankee is a singer who
writes his own songs, who describes the life in
Puerto Rico on his records and since he has had
a great success in spite of his problems. His
music helps us to see life in general from other
perspectives.
