Reality or Myth

3. Thesis Each hero’s life can be somewhat changed when their mission or journey is told differently. How can the symbols in a classic and contemporary story be so different, but in other ways so much alike?
4. The 411 on Arthur Pendragon Arthur Pendragon…never heard of him? He was a legendary king who lived during the 6th century. His story started at fifteen by being the only person to pull a sword out of the stone. Along with the help of Merlin, Lancelot, Guinevere and the Knights of the round table Arthur achieved many things. His conquests and metamorphosis have influenced art and literature for centuries.
5. Who is Elaine? Elaine in the old classic story committed suicide because of Lancelot and Guinevere’s betrayal. She told her father to send her down on a boat with a lily and a letter to Lancelot. Elaine in the new story is the Heroine. Instead of falling in love with Lance she falls in love with Will (Arthur). She despises Lance here because of his sneaking around with Gwen. She saves Will from Marco in the final battle.

9. Elaine’s Death Bed/Floatation Device In the original story her death bed is a boat in which she floats to Camelot Nickname is given: Lily Maid In Avalon High it is a raft in which she floats on during the summer.
10. Pride Winn/Prydwyn How can these two important things be so different, yet so close together?
11. Excalibur In the legend Excalibur is the sword that Arthur pulls out of a rock at fifteen years old. He is only person able to achieve this feat In Avalon High Excalibur is represented with an old sword. It is used to scare Marco from shooting Arthur

The Return After Arthur’s final battle he soon after dies Centuries later the inscription is found “Here lies buried the famous King Arthur, in the island of Avalonia” Each story is tied up exactly the same way! After Elaine’s final battle her last words to the reader are “…in the legend of Camelot, the Lady of the Lake didn’t just bring Arthur his sword but she brought him home. To Avalon.”
13. FinalQuestions Do you think that Arthur really died in the final battle? What happens to Will and Elaine now?

Time is always passing. As people live and later die their stories become somewhat fabricated. Arthur and Elaine in history may have never met each other, but through clever story telling Elaine becomes an important person in Arthur’s life.
