WELCOME TO SPRING AT THE ESA
LIBRARY.
Spring has sprung... the daffodils are blooming.
In case you missed the announcements, we had a very successful Poetry in Voice
competition here at ESA in early March. Five English teachers participated with their
classes. Our in-school finals saw a total of 14 students competing for the opportunity
to move forward to the online semi-finals. Michelle diMarco was our winner in the
Bilingual Competition and Ian Hogeboom-Burr was our English Language winner.
Both went forward to the online semi-finals, where Ian was selected to compete at the
National Finals in Vancouver, in early May. We wish the best of luck to Ian as he
looks forward to the National Finals.
April is National Poetry Month. Information about Poetry Month may be found
at the League of Canadian Poets website, Poets.ca. “The purpose is to celebrate
poetry, writing, small presses and the contribution of poets and all writers to the
cultural life in our communities. It also celebrates
libraries, and the work of so many mayors and
municipalities to promote literacy and reading.” (from
Poets.ca).
Be sure to check the ESA Library Daily Blog for our
Poem of the Day, featured every weekday
throughout the month of April. Please also join us in a
collaborative poetry project at our Padlet site.

May at the Library
The second week in May is a busy
one at the Library.
We have two creative writing
workshops, each accommodating a
maximum of 25 students.
Students who were recommended
for these sessions by their English
teachers have received personal
invitations. If you have not received an
invitation but would like to be
considered for participation, please see
Ms. Wray in the Library.
A group of students will also be
attending the White Pine festivities at
Harbourfront... the festival of authors
designed specifically for young adults.

soups, stews, salads and baked

New Graphic Novels
A spring mini-shop of graphic novels
has recently arrived in the Library.
Featuring favourites like Neil
Gaiman’s “Sandman”,
Transmetropolitan, and Chew, our
collection is curated for us by the
wonderful folks at The Beguiling and
Little Island Comics.
There are also a number of new
release titles, which were pre-
ordered earlier in the year, that will
begin arriving soon. Check the ESA
Pinterest page to see what’s arriving
and available.
