2. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Religious Symbolism Essay
After reading C.S. Lewis’s The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and watching the movie, discuss the religious
symbolism through the novel and the film.
Step 1: Brainstorm
With your table group, think back over the literary elements in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
What religious symbolism do you see? Consider characters, settings, and plot.
Step 2: Write a Thesis
Your thesis is what you are trying to prove‐in this case, that there is religious symbolism within
C. S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Step 3: Make an Outline
Using your brainstorm, begin to organize your supporting details in a logical order to form an
outline, which you will use to write your essay.
Step 4: Write an Introduction
Write an introduction for your essay‐your thesis statement will be the last sentence in your
introduction.
Step 5: Transitions
Before you begin writing, consider transitions. Add transitions between sentences and
paragraphs to make your writing flow.
Step 6: Essay Writing
Using your outline, begin writing your essay. Begin with your introduction, and keep writing.
Consider how you will break up paragraphs and end your essay.
