2. History of Portugal First native homo sapiens of Portugal were conquered repeatedly by Celtic forces from Europe. Name has changed slightly only several times since Roman conquer in 200 B.C. In 5th century Portugal was conquered by the Germans.
3. For nearly the whole 8th and 9th centuries the Moors fought for the domination of Portugal and eventually got it. At the beginning of the 12th century Portugal became it’s own country. Not too long after establishment Portugal went through a leader crisis and feared their own survival without a proper figurehead.
4. The Portuguese Empire The Portuguese Empire was the first Worldwide Empire in history. They started mapping the world and then trying to explore it. They set up trade with South America, India, China, Japan and South Africa.
5. Like many other Empires, after a large boom it is time for a large recession. Portugal began declining from the mid 1600’s to early 1800’s. The Portuguese Empire had failed to secure their empire in the early 1960’s and it lead to a surrender of an African colony in 1999. The state of Macau officially broke the Empire.
