2. TRADITIONAL FOOD Borscht (Борщ)
• It is the most famous soup
made of beets, potatoes,
cabbage and meat.
• The soups are eaten every
day of the year in Russian
homes as the first course of
the meal.
3. Appetizers (закуски)
• They are small portions of
hot or cold appetizers,
beautifully presented to give
appetite.
• The caviar (икра) red, of
salmon, and black, of
sturgeon, is the most prized
snack of Russian cuisine, and
is placed on top of a thin
slice of white bread with
butter or on blinis.
6. Shashlik (шашлык)
• Pieces of meat are marinated
in very acidic fruit juice, dry
wine or vinegar.
• Meat is put in brochette and
cook over high heat.
7. Pasta (макаронные изделия)
Pelmeni (пельмени) is small dough
balls stuffed with minced pork, lamb
or beef. It is a meal with clear social
connotation, considered the "food
of the workers“.
Varenike (вареники) is boiled pasta
stuffed with mashed potatoes and
curd.
8. Many dishes such as soups, salads, pasta and potatoes,
are served with sour cream added o smetana
(Сметана).
12. Tvorog (Творожные)
• It is a cheese-like dairy product, white, mild flavor, and soft
and grainy texture.
13. Blinis (блины)
•Its a thin cake, baked or fried,
served with butter, sour cream,
jam, honey, red or black caviar,
or stuffed with meat, chicken,
ham, cheese, potatoes,
mushrooms, sweet ricotta,
apple, strawberry or mixture of
various ingredients.
14. Desserts
•Russian Desserts are delicious, sweet and light, most include
cream cheese, sour cream, egg yolks and blinis with yeast and
stuffed with walnuts and almonds.
Prianiki (пряники) are a kind of sweet ginger.
16. Tea (чай)
• It is drunk any time of day,
usually black tea with sugar
and lemon, but no milk,
always hot.
• Usually it is accompanied
with all kinds of sweets,
pastries, pies and
chocolates.
17. Kvas (Квас)
• Old traditional drink,
although not currently as
popular as before, because of
importation of brand sodas.
• It is very refreshing, alcohol-
free, made from wheat flour,
rye and barley, and black
bread, also contains some
fruits like apple, therefore, its
characteristic and intense
flavor.
