This document introduces the concept of open urban management (OUM) which aims to make cities more transparent, collaborative, and participatory. OUM promotes open sharing of information, collaborative mapping by residents, public reporting, participative urban planning, and public debates. The goal is to encourage residents to use their skills and experiences to help deliver public services rather than just participating in more consultations and decisions. Some examples of OUM principles in practice are provided.
