2. Personal Learning Networks or Note that some people talk about PLE’s (Personal Learning Environments). We won’t get into the debate about terminology here
3. Do you have a Personal Learning Network? What’s your PLN? You probably already have a Personal Learning Network or PLN).
4. You have a Personal Learning Network What’s your PLN? You probably already have a Personal Learning Network or PLN).
5. PLN defined Your PLN might currently look something like this diagram. You find resources and sometimes you share what you find.
6. PLNs and technology You probably use technology for: – finding information - communication Maybe you use email, web searches or other technologies
7. What if you could expand your PLN? Social Media can help you find new sources of expertise. You can share resources with like-minded people and explore ideas. Places to ask and get answers
Hi. I’m going to walk you through a short introduction to some of the recent buzz about Personal learning networks. I’m doing this in Elluminate, and I’m in the role of moderator and BJ is a participant. So if you’re viewing this recording, you should be learning a bit about PLNs and you’re also getting to see what a saved Elluminate session looks like. I’ll start by asking BJ to take the mic and introduce herself.
Thanks BJ. This slide relates to a bit of a terminology debate that exists in the field. ISWO is going with “P-L-N”If you’re interested in the semantics, here’s a link http://mollybob.wordpress.com/2009/08/21/a-personal-learning-network-needs-a-personal-learning-environment/
So I just want you to think a moment about whether you have a PLN? BJ, please click on the green checkmark if you think you have a PLN. (this is as much to show how elluminate works as it is to answer the question because I already know that bj has a PLN and I am part of it)
Here’s a basic diagram of what a PLN might look like for someone who isn’t using much social media.
Note that sharing is back and forth with colleagues and friends, but you don’t give much back in the way of resources
You may use some technologies, but in general, the technology is uni-directional and it’s fairly contained. I’m going to ask BJ to take the mic again and tell us about one tool she enjoys using as part of her PLN, and also to add few wordsthe whiteboard to describe this.So what if you could expand your PLN……
more collaboration and interaction -- these circles look like separate things but eventually they begin to overlap in really interesting ways.
