Continue to keep your options open; get to know more about
the country you are interested in - know the climate, food,
dress code, general lifestyle, flying time from the Philippines,
major religion, currency and currency exchange, presence of
Philippine embassy or Philippine Overseas Labor Office
(POLO).

Asia-Pacific Rim Countries
Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Brunei Darussalam
have a climate similar to the Philippines. Flying time from
NAIA is about 1 and ½ – 3 hours. There are places of
worship for Christians and Catholics in Hong Kong and
Singapore; the major religion of Malaysia and Brunei
Darussalam is Islam as in Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam.
The Philippines has embassies, consulates, and Philippine
Overseas Labor Office (POLO) here. English is widely
understood.

Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea have very
different climates altogether. As a continent, Australia has 4
seasons plus very wet and intense dry spells. New Zealand
has 4 seasons, while Papua New Guinea has very dry and wet
seasons. Flying time from NAIA to Sydney is about 8 and ½
hours, to Christchurch (NZ) is 11 and ½ to 12 and ½ hours,
and to Port Moresby (PNG) is 6 to 6 and ½ hours. English is
widely spoken and understood.

United Arab Emirates
Seven states comprise the United Arab Emirates : Abu
Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain, Fujeirah, Ajman
and Ras AL Khaimah. Flying time from NAIA to Dubai is
about 8 and ½ and 9 hours.
The temperature in the UAE is warm to very hot. Staple
food includes hummus (a food dip or spread made from
cooked, mashed chickpeas blended with olive oil, lemon
juice, salt and garlic), meat, rice and fish, and can be very
spicy.
The official religion of UAE is Islam, and there are
prohibitions to practice other religions, but the UAE
supports a moderate interpretation of Islam. There is no
specific dress code required for women but blouses and
dresses must always have sleeves. The official currency of
the UAE is Dirham.

Middle East
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Flying time from NAIA to Riyadh and Jeddah is about 11 and ½
to 12 and ½ hours. The temperature in Saudi Arabia ranges
from extreme heat during the day to very cold at the night.
There are occasional heavy rains that sometimes cause
flooding. Staple food includes hummus, meat, rice and fish.
The official religion of the KSA is Islam, and there are strict
rules regarding this: the practice of Christianity is prohibited,
work automatically stops during prayer hours done 3 times a
day, there are places prohibited for women like restaurants,
women are required to wear the abaya (a black coverall to over
a dress), men and women are not allowed to interact with one
another if they are not married to each other, single women are
not allowed to roam or go out alone, alcohol and liquor, and
eating pork are prohibited, to mention some.* The Saudi
Arabia’s currency is the Riyal.

Qatar
The flying time from NAIA to Doha, the capital of Qatar is about
10 and ½ hours.* Saudi Arabia is south of its border, and its
temperature is quite the same.
Although Islam is the official religion, there are no strict
prohibitions against the practice of Christianity or other religions
in the country. Staple foods include hummus, rice, and salad of
parsley and tomatoes. The currency is QAR Riyal.

Bahrain
Bahrain is an archipelago composed of a group of islands in the
Persian Gulf.* The capital is Manama.
The flying time from NAIA is about 10 hours to 10 and ½ hours.
Islam is the official religion but other religions may be practiced.
Bahrain’s main exports include oil and aluminum. The country’s
currency is Bahraini Dinar.

Kuwait
Kuwait is about 12 and ½ hours to 13 hours flying time from NAIA.
The capital of Kuwait is Kuwait City.*
Kuwait shares borders with Saudi Arabia and Iraq. Fish, other
seafood, and rice are the staple foods of Kuwaitis. Islam is the
official religion of Kuwait but other religions are freely practiced.
April to October are very hot months. The currency is Kuwaiti
Dinar.

Europe
Italy is one of the top destinations of Overseas Filipino
Workers. It is located in the European continent. The
approximate flying time from NAIA to Italy’s capital Rome is
about 21 hours.
Due to its topography, Italy’s climate is varied warm and humid
towards the coast, and wet, cold and snowy in the higher
ground and valleys. Roman Catholicism is the largest religion
in the country. Italy’s currency is the Euro.

The United States of America and Canada are in the continent
of North America.
The flying time from NAIA to Los Angeles is about 15 hours;

Religious freedom is guaranteed and a very liberal lifestyle is
tolerated. The currency in USA is the US dollar, and in Canada
the Canadian dollar.
