3. What is Hip Replacement Surgery?
Hip replacements are performed more often than any other
orthopaedic surgery in the United States. There are two basic
components:
The stem
• Stem piece that anchors to the femur
bone. The cup
• Cup piece that anchors inside the
socket of the acetabulum.
