11. They are working to incorporate technology into
their school and classrooms through the use of
ipads, smart boards, document cameras, and
computer carts for classrooms to share.
Their Principal wants everyone to be able to easily
access the technology they need to meet their
students needs on a daily basis.
12. They have always had a computer lab that is accessible to all
classes. Each classroom has a mac and a pc desktop and
there are computer carts that are shared by grade levels.
For the past five years they have also utilized the computer
lab for Intervention program. Students are grouped by
reading level and they visit the computer lab (4 days a week
for 45 mintues) where they work on programs that boost
their fluency and comprehension.
(Reading A-Z’s Raz-Kids and Reading Plus.) Their primary
grades use the technology for listening to stories as well as
for learning games (Star fall, Raz-Kids…) they have upper
grades use the technology for researching as well as for
educational games (Study Island, Raz-Kids, National
Geographic for Kids…)
13. 4-DO YOU OFFER BYOD - BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE TO SCHOOL?
They do not offer it at their elementary school at this time.
14. Most classes work on the ipads daily in their classroom.
They are used for listening to audio books, typing the books they publish
in Writer’s Workshop, researching their non-fiction reports, as well as
many educational apps that are used daily for both Math and Language
Arts.
Many teachers use Socrative (an online assessment tool) to assess
understanding daily.
In Library each week, the students use the SMART board to listen to stories
and watch educational videos about Authors and books they have read.
There is also a typing station where our 4th and 5th grade students can
begin to prepare for higher levels of education by familiarizing themselves
with computers and word processing.
15. There is a wealth of great resources and apps that are Common Core
aligned which their students use daily.
All of these programs expose them to a world of knowledge that they
cannot receive just through books or discussing new topics.
These programs and videos allow them to see and experience new
ideas firsthand.
Teacher tube has a wide variety of videos that help children to
visually understand the concepts they are learning about.
Their students publish several stories a year as part of our Writer’s
Workshop model and there are a variety of programs that allow them
to write and create stories together interactively.
