2. Forms and Conventions In what ways does your media product USE, DEVELOP or CHALLENGE forms and conventions of real media products?
3.
4. Develop forms and conventions As well as using existing conventions we have further developed many some of which are: Headline: when introducing the headlines we included bass and upbeat music beats in order to appeal to our younger audience Also the weather forecast has a very mundane and common jingle so we modernised it by adding extra beats also sound effects to bring it alive.
5. Challenge forms and conventions Our media product challenges media conventions through the new stories targeting the youth Most media when addressing youth seem to have a negative approach (knife crime, ASBO) We chose to completely challenge the normal stereotype by highlighting achievements and make them be seen on a more uplifting stage (Young Mayor, X-factor youth winners) Also included politics which normally only appeals to older generation but we uplifted it making it appeal to the youth.
16. We were going to target only east London students but found that would be community news - not local news. On average they listen to radio the least. This intrigued us so we mainly targeted “tower hamlets” anyway. Our Audience Survey Results !!
17. From the result we noticed students often listen to the radio weekday evenings. Therefore we chose to air our radios weekdays at 6pm so students can kick back and relax to some cool ice FM!
The jingle was to maintain the formal balance and was setting a serious tone as it was introducing serious stories but at the same time was not too dramatic as there was entertainment stories so we had lively music beats. (jingles are very common convention used in many media products) Secondly the use of advertisements is a regular convention as the advertisements also sometimes act as sponsors. Lastly the weather forecast acts as an informing factor which is also another form used by almost all media products. These are the ways we maintained the use of forms and conventions.
We chose to make things more upbeat rather then keeping the regular and common tones and sounds as our a radio aims to be appealing to the younger generation and if its too formal then they would loose interest or if we made it to gimmicky it wouldn't be very pleasing therefore we developed regular jingles and sound codes to make our radio station stand out.
We challenged the norm via our new stories for examples instead of finding out stories regarding knife crime whereby the youth are the suspects we actually found a vast number of stories that went untold whereby the younger generation fell victim and the suspects were full grown men and the like. Also we chose not to discuss the amount of ASBOs rather chose to highlight achievements they are attaining via things such a young mayor and also allowed politics to be a story for young people without making it monotone and this challenges normal conventions whereby politics would only appeal to older generations and also politics is not used in radios aimed at the younger generation.
In practice the media offer us perspectives views about the world and people society we used our radio show to represent the youth, usually this subgroup are shown in very negative ways associated with gang culture crime and we attempt to make them seen in a more positive light and allow them to be seen as adequate on going adults as we recognised there is a gap between them and many aspects in the world such as a democratic deficit as young adulsts are very rarely involved with politics and also crime is normally making teens and the like the criminals. Furthermore we represent them as pupils regulated in society adn give them a free trial where they express there opinions and give them the luxuries to enjoy.
the newscast is breaking the current and typical stereotypes held against the younger generation and the democratic deficit. Also it gave us a chance to instead of engaging in the disconnection we aim to highlight the achievement and competition with this election and give it great importance and the young mayor is a stepping stone for many pupils to go further in to the world of politics. Therefore representing our social group as adequate well organized integrated members into the field of politics as it takes extensive knowledge and research.
This interview represents our social group in a formal and gives them political stautus and so they are not ignored, we give them an insight into the political world and issues that affect them.
The youth are alwasys suspects or criminals in knife crime however we found stories focusing on the young victims (Acknowlede them in sensitive light however in result of many media products have a very negative portrayal of our soicial group in relataiton to gang/violence crimes.
X-factor to enable young adults to be seen as aspiring people achieving there dreams also food critique help show them to use time in a mature way not just wasting time.
From this i will discuss what other radio station are similar in interest also they may find ICE fm is appealing to broadcast on there station.
Both our stations see the importance of young people and they deserve to have there opinions aired as they are the next generation.
BBC Radio 1 is a British not only is a national radio station but also internationally. It targets ages 15–29, and was launched at 7:00am on 30 September 1967.
Also we feel there are not enough stations aiming at the youth so we felt a need to create an essence of independence intriducing new categories of reducing the democratic deficit by making them a part of the democratic process through thins such as young mayor without the drab of dull politics. This new topic may appeal to BBC 1 and ICE fm also is an entertainment factor with uptodate music and aims at the same target audice and BBC 1
This will show who we chose to target and for what reasons
Originally targeting all students found students listen to radio least became more specific targeteing on ly towerhamletts We found that topics were up to date music, student welfare, to be a social netwroking. Other stats showed that on average more men then wome listen to the radio so we target more women with things such as food crtcs and other shows aimed at thme.
We used our results to determine the time and when we would broadcast our radio. Weekday evenings and 6pm
So our radio station is moderate in its language and so on and engages the audience well and keeps them uptodate and entertained so a variety of things is also appealing and we use little things as different sound codes and good beats for continuity.
Digital is a more advanced use of technology using discrete discontinuous values However analogue uses more continuous values. Currently digital appears to be replacing analogue use, as society becomes more modern and complex
Equivalent to sky for radios DAB supplies the best service as transmitters, creating multiple paths controlling receiver sensitivity. As mobiles frequently receive problems with noise and multipath fading (poor reception). DAB is recently replacing the analogue service
disadvantages Expenses due to things such as transmissions costs A few compatibility problems Benefits It has more stations Quality improved with things such as Improved end-user features Less pirate interference Variable bandwidth
Technological Convergence is when different technologies have the ability to perform similar tasks. Other examples are games consoles The Wii, x-box and PS3 are not only for games but also act as social networking tool due to the web browsers. Also another famous one is mobile phones They can carry out tasks of other technologies, radio, internet, voice recorders, cameras e.c.t.
A child in a third world country wont be surfing the internet when he is finding it difficult to find clean water
Parallel medium it is basically a media that you use it while carrying out your daily activites. Before phones were only used as wireless phones now updated to the extent you can watch TV and Check your email, record and capture most of your “moments” they are a the source of social networking
