They are to choose from one of four topic areas: Philippine media entertainment/commercials, campus issues/policies, government policies/services, or informative media. The document provides sample questions to consider and formatting guidelines for submitting three topic proposals from two different areas by Friday.
2. TASK In the next few weeks, you will collect data on the topic of your choice (whether experiential/ field work or research-based) into order to analyze and problematize the issue.
3. TASK You will prepare a 5 min oral presentation (with AV materials) on your topic and will present your analysis/ evaluation to a partner class beginning Mar 2, 2011.
16. Some questions to consider for Campus/ Government Policies, Services, Laws: What is the policy? Who is the target? What is the goal/ purpose of this policy? What is the underlying value/s and /or rationale behind the imposition of this policy? What is your evaluation of this policy (i.e., effective/ non-effective, successful/ not successful; questionable or problematic, etc)?
17. FOR FRIDAY: Submit THREE (3) Topic Proposals FROM 2 DIFFERENT TOPIC AREAS Format for each one: FOCUS : (Name of specific show, policy, etc) REASON: (Why am I personally interested?) PLAN: (How do I plan to evaluate this? What am I going to look into?)
18. SAMPLE: PROPOSAL 1 FOCUS : English as a Medium of Instruction Policy REASON: I grew up in an upper class English-speaking family in the Philippines. I see how difficult it is for poorer people to learn English. I think poor English is the reason why we are poor in Math and Science. PLAN: I want to see whether more and earlier exposure to English leads to better English language mastery. I also plan to evaluate the relationship between English and educational achievement. I also want to look into the relationship between English and Employment.
