Jesus said to "Love your enemies." It's a revolutionary kind of love. We are to love like this because our Heavenly Father loves like this.
The message was given on Sept 22, 2013 at New City Church in Calgary by Pastor John Ferguson. For more info, go to www.NewCityChurch.ca.

12. “Such a love is not
motivated by the merit of
the one who is loved….
It is a deliberate love,
rooted in the will—a love
by choice. Agape love
says, ‘I will love this
person because, by
God’s grace, I choose
to love this person.’”
13. I say to you, Love your enemies,
Luke 6:27-28
do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you,
pray for those who abuse you.
14. To one who strikes you on the
Luke 6:27-28
cheek, offer the other also....
15. To one who strikes you on the
Luke 6:29-30
cheek, offer the other also, and
from one who takes away your
cloak do not withhold your tunic
either. Give to everyone who begs
from you, and from the one who
17. If Christians took this absolutely literally
there would soon be a class of saintly
paupers, owning nothing, and another
of prosperous idlers and thieves. It is
not this that Jesus is seeking, but a
readiness among his followers to give
and give and give. The Christian
should never refrain from giving out of
a love for his possessions.

18. And as you wish that others would
Luke 6:31
do to you, do so to them.
19. If you love those who love you, what
Luke 6:32-33
benefit is that to you? For even
sinners love those who love them.
And if you do good to those who do
good to you, what benefit is that to
you? For even sinners do the same.
20. And if you lend to those from whom
Luke 6:34
you expect to receive, what credit is
that to you? Even sinners lend to
sinners, to get back the same
amount....
21. But love your enemies, and do
Luke 6:35
good, and lend, expecting nothing
in return, and your reward will be
great, and you will be sons of the
Most High, for he is kind to the
ungrateful and the evil.
22. For he makes his sun
to rise on the evil and
on the good, and
sends rain on the just
and on the unjust. ~ Jesus of Nazareth
The Gospel of Matthew, 5:45
24. We are to love like this
because our Heavenly
Father loves like this.
25. “There are two
particularly astonishing
things about these
instructions. First, their
simplicity: they are
obvious, clear, direct, and
memorable. Second,
their scarcity. How many
people do you know who
really live like this?”
33. “We didn’t expect this kind of treatment from most
Christians because most Christians don’t act this
way. But because of the fact that Jesus said ‘Love
your neighbor as yourself’… these people are
acting like real Christians. Both my wife and
I love them for that, because they are actually
putting their actions where their beliefs are.”
