CROSS CONTENT CLASSIFICATIONEach subject specific resource in Web of Knowledge has its own article level classification system, such as MeSH, BIOSIS Concepts, CABI codes and Inspec classifications. These indexing systems can be used to create very powerful search strategiesIt can be time consuming for a user to learn the details of each indexing system. However by utilizing the common classification system used in Web of Knowledge everyone can take advantage of these powerful indexing tools. It is also a useful way to find information outside of your own domain of expertise.Thomson Reuters staff have manually mapped the controlled vocabulary from each of the different classification systems (e.g. MeSH) on to a common indexing backbone which is broadly based on the Web of Science / JCR journal classifications.
