2. April Greiman Design must seduce, shape, and perhaps more importantly, evoke an emotional response.

3. April Grieman born 1948 is a contemporary designer. She is recognized as one of the first designers to embrace computer technology as a reliable tool starting in 1984 and, to a lesser extent, for introducing the New wave aesthetic to the United States.

4. New Wave New Wave was originally designed by Wolfgang Weingart, a German born graphic designer, it is a type of typography which uses inconsistent letter spacing, varying type weights within single words and type set at unusual angles. Wolfgang introduced it but April Greiman is rewarded for popularizing it in America with her designs.

6. April Greiman is regarded as one of the most influential designers of the digital age. She has been called a pioneer in this regard, making it acceptable for a graphic designer to explore their craft using a computer. In 1984, computers were seen by much of the public as science fiction props.

7. A native New Yorker, April is a graduate of the legendary Basel School of Design in Switzerland. In 1986 she accepted the role as guest designer for issue #133 of the influential Design Quarterly magazine.

9. She designed a truly unique layout for the periodical: it unfolded into a single page measuring two feet by six feet. Contained on the page were both traditional photographic images and cutting-edge digital images, including a life-sized self-portrait.

11. You don't have to give up your pencil when you switch to computer design," declares April Greiman. "The Mac's just another pencil!" April Greiman used a range from pencils and paint to cameras and videos before she bought her first Macintosh. Greiman continues to expand her artistic horizons through a variety of new media, including desktop publishing. There isn’t much in this field she has yet to tackle, she has designed everything from cracker wrappers to TV commercials. April Greimans Macintosh

13. Achievements and Works In 1982 she became the head of the design department at the California Institute of the Arts. She has also been awarded with the American Institute of Graphic Arts Gold Medal for lifetime achievement and she has three honorary doctorates: Kansas City Art Institute; Lesley University, The Art Institute of Boston; Academy of Art University.

14. April's work in particular is often identified for its 3D, spatial qualities that provide a unique experience to the viewer. Challenging every convention in the industry, even the term ‘graphic design,’ which she feels is too limiting, April prefers to be called a ‘trans-media artist.’

15. Made in Space Presently, she heads Los Angeles-based design consultancy Made in Space. An insistent innovator, April Greiman works at the border zone of the discipline labeled graphic design, at the intersections of video, computer graphics, architecture and environment. 16. Made in Space In 1976 April Greiman moved to California and opened "Made in Space, Inc.", a graphic design studio, in Los Angeles. April Greiman's graphic designs unite American Postmodernism with the rational clarity of the Swiss school. Often similar to colleges, April Greiman's works consist in layered lettering and pictures whose constituents seem to hover. With her work, April Greiman exerted a formative influence on the Californian New Wave style. In the 1980s April Greiman was among the very first graphic designers to realize fully the design potential afforded by the new Apple Macintosh and Quantel Painbox digital technology.

17. Clothing designed by April Described as “the Pixar of clothes” by Tim Blanks of Style.com, Basso & Brooke were trailblazing digital fabric printing in fashion back in 2004. Jumping ahead six years we simultaneously fly back to 1986 for an Adventures-with-April-Greiman graphic scheme.
