First impressions and dressing for success
1. First impressions count. A
professional consultant who
doesn’t take the time to
maintain a professional
appearance presents the
image of not being able to
perform adequately on the
job. If you are not
appropriately dressed for the
occasion be it a professional
or personal setting, it
conveys the image that you
don’t care and you are not
giving the due importance to
the occasion.
2. As they say, first impression is the last impression. The moment you walk into a room,
the first impression which people will form about you is through your dress.
3. Dress for yourself. Understand & analyze your body type, what suits
you the most. Feel free to experiment with clothes & combinations to
figure out what suits you best.
4. The rules of dressing are changing. Today even pink shirts are absolutely acceptable for boys,
which was a big no till a few years back. There are no set rules for dressing. Explore and
experiment but be very careful. However, we will share some tips with you, which will help you
dress appropriately for the occasion and audience
5. One of the first things to do is to identify your skin tone and accordingly decide
which colours to wear.
6. Colors for your skins
• Warm: white, gray, green, blue-green, burgundy,
Yellow, any primary or pastel colors
• Cool: orange, red, gold, yellow, green, burgundy,
White, any other light shade colors
• Neutral: Black, white, grey, blue, olive, burgundy,
brown
7. Just to give an example, the guy on the extreme left is of neutral skin tone and dark
shades suit him. On the other hand the guy on the extreme right is of warm shade and
pastel colours look good on him. Similarly the girl in the center (the one with her arms
folded) has a cool skin tone, hence lighter shade of grey will suit her.
12. If you don’t pay attention,
your socks can spoil your
entire look. Your socks
should match your trousers.
Socks are NOT meant to
standout. Keep them low
profile.
19. Friday Dressing – As most offices allow semi formals or casuals on Friday you can experiment a
bit. E.g. If you have a meeting on Friday. Add a bit of pattern to your day with a big checked
blazer in grey and matching flat front slim trousers. Polish it off with a tie and a pocket square.
Darker colors look better on darker skin tone.
20. Workdays don’t have to be boring. If you are feeling simple opt for this grey brown slim
business suit and contrast it with patterned shirt. You can leave the tie aside.
Check shirt + Tie = BIG NO
Self check + Tie = may work
Nice black suit with grey and white combination always looks attractive. You may use brown
shade of shoes to add some variation to style.
21. Contrast collared slim shirts matched with a leisure suit in a dull grey makes for a fashionable at
work.
Bell bottom still works for women with some stylish top.
Wear heals with skirts. Avoid platform heals
22. Have to attend a function after work? Then this should be your undisputed choice. Rich brown
and black combo makes for a sleek, suave and celebratory corporate look.
Black little dress is magical for women. Try some variation around neck area.
23. This geometric patterned polo tee paired with formal trouser makes the perfect choice for days
when you want to ditch the corporate code and opt for something little more casual.

As they say, first impression is the last impression. The moment you walk into a room, the first impression which people will form about you is through your dress. Appearance is the most importance factor in day to day life. Your dressing sense will reflect your personality.
Understand & analyze your body type, what suits you the most. Feel free to experiment with clothes & combinations to figure out what suits you best. If in doubt feel free to ask for feedback.
The rules of dressing are changing. Today even pink shirts are absolutely acceptable for boys, which was a big no till a few years back. There are no set rules for dressing. Explore and experiment but be very careful. However, we will share some tips with you, which will help you dress appropriately for the occasion and audience
One of the first things to do is to identify your skin tone and accordingly decide which colours to wear. How do we identify our skin tone?
The easiest way to identify your skin tone, is by looking at the nerve on your wrist. If you can see a green nerve, you have a warm skin tone. If the nerve appears blue in colour, then you have a cool skin tone. And if you can’t see any nerve, then you have a neutral skin tone. Once you determine your skin tone, you can try out some of the colours we have mentioned above which should suit you as per your skin tone. However we will again add, fee free to experiment what suits you the best
Just to give an example, the guy on the extreme left is of neutral skin tone and dark shades suit him. On the other hand the guy on the extreme right is of warm shade and pastel colours look good on him. Similarly the girl in the center (the one with her arms folded) has a cool skin tone, hence lighter shade of grey will suit her.
Fitting is very important. Slim or custom fit is in the trend. Custom trailoring is good option if readymade doesn ’t suit you well. Body structure is imporatnt to consider. Jean + Formal shirt = BIG NO. Play with Jeans and formal shirt if no options. Such as fold your sleeves or wear casual watch Jeans + Leather shoes = BIG NO Jean + Causal shoes + Casual check shirts = Cool
It is very important to pay attention to your shoulder and sleeve fitting while wearing a shirt. The shoulder of the shirt should be exactly aligned with your shoulder. Also pay minute attention the length of shirt sleeve in an unbuttoned as well as buttoned state
Very important. The length of the trouser. If not considered, it will spoil the entire look
Perfect fit and great combination.
If you don’t pay attention, your socks can spoil your entire look. Your socks should match your trousers. Socks are NOT meant to standout. Keep them low profile.
The length of the suit sleeve is absolute NO. Tie length is the disaster here. Refer next slide to know the perfect length of the tie.
Refer this picture as perfect tie length. Your tie should end where your trousers start. Choose simple belts buckles. Jazzy belts will take you nowhere. Belts should match your shoes. When you wish to drop the blazer, choose to go with traditional sleek grey pants and crisp white shirt with contrast patterned silm tie. Amazing combination.
If you are wearing formals, then go for metal strap. Again simple is good. In case you don’t have a watch with a metallic strap, go for a watch with a leather strap, but ensure it’s absolutely simple, and not a jazzy, funky sports watch
Women can go little flashy here even while wearing formals
More of semi casual watches for men. Go very well with jeans and casual shirts.
