In addition, watermarks offer the capability to add additional text behind the main text, for example “Confidential.” The next two sections describe how to add watermarks and backgrounds, and show some examples of the effects you can achieve.
Tip for picture watermarks Once you’ve selected the image, you can optionally scale it and wash it out so that it’s not as visible behind text. Tip for text watermarks You can also set transparency and diagonal or horizontal layout.
Note : In Microsoft Office Word 2003 you can print your Web page including the background. If you wish to do this, on the Tools menu, click Options , and then click the Print tab. Then in the Include with document section, select the Background colors and images check box.

Putting borders around chunks of text adds visual punch to things like headings and direct quotations. When you select your border options, you can preview your choices right in the dialog box, just as you can on the Page Border tab.
Tip: If you’re working with a table, there’s a cool way to quickly add a unified border, shading, and color scheme: Use the Table AutoFormat feature. You’ll learn about it in a later section, “Quick table effects.”
Tip: You can add stripe patterns to a table without applying an entire AutoFormat scheme.

As you’ve seen in previous lessons, the best way to figure out what works is to try different combinations and see the results in the Preview section of the dialog box.
Note: You can turn only a single letter into drop caps; even if you select a block of text, only the first letter is affected. Also worth noting is that only the first letter of a paragraph can become a drop cap.

Using This Template This Microsoft Office PowerPoint ® template has training content about using Word 2003 to enliven your document with graphical elements and visual effects. It’s geared for you to present to a group and customize as necessary. This template’s content is adapted from the Microsoft Office Online Training course called “Audio course: Decorate documents with backgrounds, borders, and text effects.” Features of the template Title slide: On the very first slide, there is placeholder text over which you should type the name of your company. Or you can delete the text box altogether if you don’t want this text. Animations: Custom animation effects are applied throughout. These effects play in previous versions back to Microsoft PowerPoint 2000. They include the entrance effects called Peek and Stretch , and sometimes the Dissolve effect.
