People of empires think the Indians are nasty savage people
If there is to be progress people have to venture out of the “norm”
As people got together “the stronger began to seize possession of the weaker. This is the beginning of empire.”
When you speak of empires you think of oppressed people (power)
Empires usually have many different cultures and religions (to be big) this would take huge herds of slaves

  • 6. As people got together “the stronger began to seize possession of the weaker. This is the beginning of empire.”
  • 7. When you speak of empires you think of oppressed people (power)
  • 8. Empires usually have many different cultures and religions (to be big) this would take huge herds of slaves

  • 10. All great European and Asian Empires were large, well-trained, and highly mobile land forces
  • 11. People had very different ideas of what the geographical world looked like
  • 12. Sailing ships created the possibility to transport large numbers of people across the planet
  • 13. The French Revolution ended the belief that God had granted the Roman emperors the authority that they had
  • 14. War can be for just hurting people or it can be used for changing peoples lives, in a good way
  • 15. Alexander's empire was the biggest anyone has ever seen but the way it was ran would turn out to have some major consequences
  • 16. Rome would pick up where Grease left off
  • 17. When Rome became so big, ‘civil war’ started, the strongest part of the empire tried to take over, the army got so big Senate could not control it any longer
  • 18. Empires will start to have independent states and the people, once loyal will start to revolt. That is the down fall of most of the big empires: Spain, Britain, Soviet Union

  • 20. The gold and silver that helped empires flourish also was their huge down fall
  • 21. Europeans took over the majority of America. This became possible because of new navigational techniques
  • 22. Racism was virtually non existent in the ancient world. But wouldn’t be for long!
  • 23. All empires in history were slave-owning societies
  • 24. Sugar was responsible for the boom of slave trade in the 15th through the 18th centuries
  • 25. People thought it was better for slaves to be enslaved then to be free. It was far better for their minds and souls to be enslaved with civilized beings than to be free among their own kind
  • 26. By the middle of the 18th century it was thought that the whole world had been explored and charted . All except the Pacific
  • 27. Spain, France, and Britain started expeditions to pursue power and knowledge
  • 28. Cooks triumph of the British nation was the creation of nationalism. This helped to shape the world in the 19th century
  • 29. The British Empire justified racism as the commitment to “civilize” the “barbarian” and by doing so it would bring the world together
  • 30.
  • 31. Eurasians were able to wipe out a lot of other continents due to their early advancement because of agriculture
  • 32. Eurasia had a huge selection of domesticated animals and also had the best climates which the East West Axis provided. So it was easy for the plants and animals to adapt across the continent
  • 33. Eurasians grew wheat and barley which is easy to grow and store and it is a excellent source of nutrition. They grew a lot of food so the population went up substantially.
  • 34. As food supply went up the population went up which made different non farming jobs like craftsmen and scribes which helped to find technological advancements. This helped to conquer other continents.
  • 35. The huge population created widespread disease but this also helped the Eurasians to develop a immunity
  • 36. The disease came from domesticated animals
  • 37. Even though other continents weren't as advanced as Eurasia it didn’t mean that they were any less intelligent, it was all luck where one would be from

  • 40. It is had to predict history unlike science
  • 41. Humans and animals are extremely complex
  • 42. If something small changes it can result in something huge changing
  • 43. Things in history such as people, weather, animals, and societies have so many variables. They sometimes feed off each other
  • 44. It is easier to predict history on a large level over long periods of time so that the millions of small events average out

  • 46. Great civilizations all had things in common- technology, large population, and organized work force. These are the keys why some civilizations advanced so much more than others
  • 47. Planters would select the best plants and use the seeds. They started to control nature. (Domestication)
  • 48. Hunter Gathers would never have enough food compared to people who planted crops
  • 49. Domesticating plants and animals equals productive civilization
  • 50. People who lived in the Fertile Crescent were blessed with the best crops and animals
  • 51. “Can the distribution of wealth and power be related to cattle and wheat?”

  • 53. Pizzaro lead the conquistadors to the Inca (they were invited and largely out numbered)
  • 54. Spain had the best weapons. They produced steel while the Inca still made weapons made of bronze
  • 55. Pizzaro captured Atahualpa and killed all his people
  • 56. Pizzaro and his people had a immunity because he was around domesticated animals
  • 57. Incas never had any protection from diseases because they had very few domesticated animals
  • 58. Atahualpa handed over all his gold to Pizzaro because he promised him his freedom but Pizzaro still killed him
  • 59. How did Europeans conquer the Incas?

  • 61. African slaves were choose for the most degrading labor which made a form of racism
  • 62. These stereotypes of the black slaves reached Spaniard, English, and Americans
  • 63. A new want for sugar created a disciplined labor force. People became addicted to having sugar and really addicted to tobacco. Both produced by slaves
  • 64. African slaves were better workers because they were disciplined and productive while Indian slaves thought agriculture work was for women
  • 65. Indians were more susceptible to disease. This was why African slaves price was much higher than Indians
  • 66. Virgin soil epidemic- Indian population was almost completely wiped out due to disease, mass murder, and oppressive labor. America had never has any of these diseases so there was little immunity
  • 67. The “New World” could have never developed without a immense labor force (slave labor) from another continent
  • 68. White people as slaves started to be out of the question because they were Christians.
  • 69. Having local whites instead of importing African slaves would have been a lot cheaper
  • 70. Around 1820’s there was a lack of hope for black slaves because they increased in value (Growing demand and limited supply)
  • 71. Even national leaders thought that blacks and whites could not coexist

  • 75. Davis’s decision to become a historian was from his experiences during the post-war
  • 76. Davis says the problems that surround us are because a lack of knowledge
  • 77. Davis helped to understand how slavery shaped the history of the United States, Americas, and the world
  • 78. Davis got drafted right out of high school so there was no time for college
  • 79. He saw out right racism against black soldiers that he worked with
  • 80. The ‘way’ history was taught was most important to him
  • 81. He taught American History for 47 years
