1. Castilleja de la Cuesta is a town and
municipality in the province of Seville, in the
autonomous community of Andalusia, Spain.
Hernán Cortés died in this town on December
2, 1547. He is not buried there however,
because his remains were returned to Mexico
as directed in his will. They currently rest in
the "Templo de Jesús" which is part of the
Hospital de Jesús Nazareno in Mexico City.
It was the birthplace of actor and dancer
Eduardo Cansino, Sr., the father of Rita
Hayworth, as well as Charlton Athletic
footballer Miguel Ángel Llera.
Castilleja de la Cuesta is the place of
production of the "Tortas de Aceite de Ines
Rosales." These are some waffle-thin "tortas"
made with olive oil and having a hint of anis.
They are exported to many countries,
including the USA.
