How to Do a 360 Degree Reference Check Using LinkedIn  by  Greg Albrecht M&A Executive Search
Checking for References In candidate’s homepage, click on “Check for References”
Checking references Review contacts who you know, that know the candidate
Checking References Check to see where you know the reference from i.e. company, group, association
Checking References Click on candidate’s reference and send them an inquiry.  Check to make sure they are open to giving a reference
Checking References Send LI request for reference to your contact; ask for specific information
Checking References Ask to verify specific accomplishments on their resume
Checking References Ask for how they accomplished a goal and what role they played in the project
Checking References Ask for verification of years both worked together and verify the candidate’s title
Checking references Look for peers, subordinates, supervisors and customers in your contact group that worked with the candidate Ask each specific questions on roles, interpersonal skills, motivators, and stressors
Checking References Ask the reference if you may call them for follow-up info and for additional questions
Checking References Ask if they would re-hire the individual or work with them again:  Why or Why not?
Checking References Confirm reasons they left
Checking References Verify salary, bonus and any awards they may have won
Checking References For sales professionals ask to speak to customers – did they “Walk the Talk” –verify, verify verify
Checking References Look at their LI homepage for references and follow-up with them
Checking References When talking to references always indicate information will be held confidential
Checking References Final step – Use outside Service to check DMV records, State & Federal Criminal records, Financial records
