In the mid 20th century, Claud Levi Strauss
partnered with Roland Barthes and went on to
discover that the way we understand certain
words does not only depend on the direct
meaning, but the understanding of the
difference between the word and its ‘opposite’,
or as they called it ‘Binary Oppositions’.
