The document summarizes the results of a survey designed to understand the target audience for a music video. Key findings include:
- The majority of respondents were female aged 15-18 who listen to R&B and pop music.
- Respondents felt the music video was professionally produced.
- Popular music streaming platforms were Spotify and YouTube.
- Narrative was slightly preferred over performance in music videos.
- Storyline, location, and lighting were popular narrative/performance elements.
- Images and colors were most important for the digipak design.
2. • I designed a survey for my target
audience which would enable me to
understand what they like and dislike
about my music video, alongside
demographic questions.
• I had a maximum of 10 questions to ask
my audience.
• There were simple questions such as age,
gender and the genre of music they
listen to. All the feedback will enable me
to understand how I can create a
suitable poster and digipak to appeal to
them and how I can make my music
video suitable to their preferences.
• Furthermore, this task will help me with my
evaluation – Q3, as I have to discuss how
my audience have participated into my
work and with more feedback from my
audience via video, I can evaluate how
this has effective my final submission of
my music video and the ancillary tasks.
3. Question 1
• This question was basic, this is for me to understand the ratio of the genders that are potentially in
my target audience.
• From looking at the results, there is a clear distinction between which gender my work has
appealed to.
• 7 out of 10 are females and 3 out of 10 are male.
4. Question 2
• This question is about the audiences age. Another
demographic related question. I would need to know the
age of the audience so that I can analyse which age
group my work would be more appealing to.
• Furthermore, with knowing the age of my audience, I can
understand the background they come from. Looking at
the results from my survey, I have got interesting results.
• 80% of the people who participated in this survey are 15-
18 and this presumes that they are young and would be
in education (GCSE, College or A Levels).
• compared to the 20% of the age group 31-35, this
assumes that the genre I have chosen doesn’t really
reach out to a variety of ages but somehow there are
few people in this age group that would listen and view
the genre of my work. In addition, the people in this
category would be working probably at a professional
level in their career.
5. Question 3
• A question for the participants of my survey was the genre
of music they tend to listen to. This question was a multiple
choice.
• From looking at the chart on the right, the genres listed are
different and can therefore give me a clear indication on
common genres amongst the audience.
• Total participants was 10 however as it was a multiple
choice answer, 23 choices were made, which therefore
means every person answered 2.3 choices.
• R&B was the popular choice, this is good for me as it
indicates that the potential audience would be interested
in the genre my music video and ancillary task is.
• Pop was the second popular choice, I can link this into the
age as well, because most of the participants are 15- 18
and the pop culture is more appealing to them.
• 4 responds for Dance and Hip-hop, alongside 3 people
choosing alternative rock and 1 person who listens to Indie.
6. Question 4
• This question relates to my music video and how professional it is compared to
industry standard music videos.
• Looking at the table above, the participants believe that my music video is rated
to be professional, with one person saying it’s average. This demonstrates the skills I
have put into my music video are at a standard where it can be classified as
professional.
7. Question 5
• This question is for me to understand the different
online music platforms that have been used to listen
music.
• I had made the question specific by asking them in
a week, which platforms were used most often.
• By getting the results I can incorporate them into my
ancillary tasks (YouTube logo on the CD and link to
music video on the poster) and my music video
(uploaded onto YouTube).
• Analysing this questions, there were two streaming
platforms that are popular amongst the participants
– Spotify and YouTube, which are very popular
currently. There was one respond of choosing music
channels which portrays that there are some
traditional routes left into listening to music.
8. Question 6
• This was another generic
question on whether the
participants attend live music
events. Getting answers for this
will highlight the importance of
them.
• 40% responded that they do
not attend any live musical
events in contrast to the other
30% that go ‘slightly often’ and
the other 30% who go
‘moderately often’.
9. Question 7
• This was an important question as it would be helpful to find out which
feature is key and important for the audience.
• This question was a multiple choice answer. Roughly around 9 responses
were made and believe that the camera shots, angles and movement are
important in a music video. In my own work, I have attempt to use a wide
range of shots and angles to achieve a ‘professional’ feel to it.
• For editing, 6 people responded and had their say that editing is important.
This was the second highest response given, proving that technical parts
such as the camera and the editing are important, however it draws with the
option of performance and/or narrative, this proves that the audience would
like to have this feature for them to be engaged in the video. 3 people
believe mise-en-scene is important, alongside the choice of song.
• 5 people said that the lihgitng is important, which is another factor to
conside because without the lighting, the footage would either be very dark
or very bad.
• I received a comment, where someone suggested the ‘use of colour’ in a
music video is important.
10. Question 8
• This question is very important as it clearly
shows me what type of music video
people would like to watch. Furthermore,
it can give me an indication on elements
I could bring to create a
performance/narrative in my music
video.
• Looking at the pie chart, 6 people believe
that
a narrative is more appealing compared
to the other 4 participants who believe
that the performance is more important
and is more appealed.
11. Question 9
• This question informs me elements of a performance
and narrative that is liked by them, and I can then
potentially include them into my own music video.
• Once again this is multiple choice option. The most
popular respond was the storyline. This is important for
me as then for my own music video, I can create a
slight storyline even though I am creating a
performance music video.
• There were 2 choices which got 4 responds, Location
and Lighting. These are another feature which I
should work on as there are participants who like to
see these feature be more emphasised.
• Editing and mise-en-scene seemed to be the least
popular choice in terms of features that the
audience would like the most.
12. Question 10
• This question relates to one of my ancillary tasks – the
digigpak. In order to create a successful digipak, I have
the research and plan according to the like and dislikes
of the audience, therefore this question was asked.
• With these results I can ensure to create an appealing
digipak for the audience and also take into
consideration their responds in my final digipak design.
• 60% said the first they would see when purchasing a
digipak is the image. The image I believe is an
important factor and would have to be appealing for
the audience. The use of direct address or an unusual
image would be interesting to include in my digipak.
30% said that colours are important, I have to ensure
that I keep a constant house style and ensure that the
colours I use are suitable and fit into the chosen genre.
• 10% answered that the text/font is important for them to
clearly read the album name.
