2. Man opens his own museum
A Nazi trench coat, a bank note signed by train robber Ronnie Biggs and one of
Drew Barrymore’s miniskirts are just a few items at a private museum in
Locksbottom.
Michael Maxted, 33, has been collecting artefacts and celebrity pieces since he
was a boy and now has his very own ‘memory museum’.
He said he is now hoping to find the money to hire a suitable location that
would allow him to open it up to the public.
Among some of his most notable objects are celebrity autographs, including
pop star Gabriele, a note from notorious East End criminal Reggie Kray, a
uniform worn by an actor in London’s Burning and a WW1 knuckle duster found
on a battlefield.
3. Why?
• This story mostly fits Galtung and Ruge’s
guideline as it is news worthy because it involves
lots if famous people from the past which opens
it to a larger audience.
• Also once there has been a news article there
may be people wanting to go there to write
reviews, which could then expand its audience
even further.
• The only part of the guideline it does not fit is
that it is not necessarily bad news because bad
news appeals to people more.
4. Explanation?
• The reason that this story is good for a youth
audience and is still interesting is because it
involves things like a bank note signed by train
robber Ronnie Biggs this appeals to youths
because it involves money which is something all
teenagers want. Another thing that may appeal
to the teenagers is the WW1 knuckle duster
because it is not only a piece of history which
would appeal to the older audience like adults
but it links to games played by teenagers like GTA
5 and Saints Row 4.
5. 3 News Stories
Why is Facebook buying Oculus headset company? : This headline
links to my website because this is a story mainly focused at teenagers as it is
to do with games and gaming is largely focused at teenagers. Also it links to
my other story where I talked about it being related to recent games.
The Soyuz rocket blasts off to the Space Station : This story links to
my website because most teenagers with enough intelligence respect how
difficult it is to get up to space and some people may aspire to be an
astronaut.
Teachers' strike closes schools across England and Wales : This
targets teenagers aged 12-16 because it means a day off school which for
most teenagers is a win. This links to last news story because I mentioned
intelligence and if you spend more time in school the you will understand
things like space.
7. Deconstruction
• On my website design I have tried to make it
interesting with a slightly different and unconventional
layout. If I had really made it i would have included
links to related things that you can do, for example; if I
had included a violent story then would have a link to
self defense classes. I think that my design/layout will
appeal to teenagers because I have tried to lay it out a
bit like a comic which makes it seem a bit less boring. I
have also carefully pick the headlines from real news to
help engage the reader. I have also included images
because people of all ages like to be able to see an
image of what the are reading about.
