2. Course Description
This course is designed to meet the individual needs of each
student by providing additional academics support for all classes.
Students will be taught how to utilize their learning strengths to
succeed in academic settings. Students will receive academic
support for all classes, learn about learning styles and good study
habits, and learn how to advocate for themselves by learning
about Special Education Services.
3. Required Text and Instructional
Materials
Needed Materials
• Each day, students must bring the following to Learning Lab:
their Student Planner, writing instrument(s), any homework
from other classes and the required books and materials
needed to complete that homework, and a silent reading
book/magazine (school appropriate) to occupy his/her time if
all work is completed.
4. Credit Requirements
The course grade is based on the following:
• Daily Log – Students will be required to keep a Daily Log in Learning Lab. This log will
document what the student worked on during the Learning Lab class period.
Students will be able to earn up to 10 points per day by completing the Daily Log
sheet. These points are earned by arriving to class on time, coming to class prepared
(i.e. covered book, binder, paper, homework, writing utensil, etc.), not asking to use
the bathroom during the class period, and acting appropriately while in class. If a
student has an excused absence, the missed points can be made up if the student
meets will all of his/her teachers to discuss how the student plans on making up what
he/she missed in each class. If a student has an unexcused absence, these points
cannot be made up.
• Student Planner – Students should be prepared with their planner filled out every day
to be checked by the instructor. The planner will be checked only once per week, but
the student will not know exactly which day this will occur.
• Grade Sheet -– Students will receive a print-out of their current grades in all of their
classes every Thursday. It is the student’s responsibility to get this list signed by a
parent/guardian, to sign the print-out themselves, to get the signature of the teacher
of any class he/she is missing work and/or are failing, and to submit it to the Learning
Lab instructor. This assignment will only be accepted on the actual due date for the
full earned points. One day after the initial due date, the grade will be reduced by
10%. The Grade Sheet will not be accepted two or more days after the due date.
