Flips Flipping Pages is a Manila-based book club that meets every month to discuss a diverse range of literature.
2016 will be an interesting year for the Flippers as we continue to evolve as a book club (By May, we would have been discussing books for 8 years!) and as we delve into other forms of storytelling. We only have 4 novels in the official line-up, which is surprising for this group of fiction lovers. Our list of novels touch on the genres of western, science fiction, historical fiction, mystery, and erotica. We will touch on the Harry Potter universe, but we won't exactly discuss a book from the series. Hmmm.
We will take on the challenge of theme/genre discussions as we tackle fanfiction and a wide body of Indian literature. We will jump from traditional and electronic book pages as we talk about the Podcast as a form of storytelling and journalism. Still in non-fic, in April, we will finally answer our demand to talk about scientific perspectives.
USA dominates as our source of literature. But we will also go to Japan, Italy, the United Kingdom, India, and of course, the Philippines.
We will continue our Wild Card tradition to read a piece published in 2016.
November is a mystery, a void we hope to fill soon.
Expect two fun parties this year--Halloween and Christmas.
But before all these, we will start the Flippin' year with our traditional Best & Worst discussion with a non-traditional twist.
But wait, there's more. We will have our first non-official discussion this January too. Because that's how much we love talking about books.
Keep on flippin' in 2016!
