The following step once the jury is selected is the opening statements. The
prosecution and the defense each have an opportunity to present their case to the
jury. Although, no evidence is presented throughout the opening statement; the
statement is a persuasive argument headlining the case. After the opening
statement, each side of the law can present evidence and testimonies of witnesses
and/or experts. The prosecution usually makes the first contribution in a jury trial.
