2. Media Ethics Today
The article “Media Ethics Today” written by Brenna Coleman
comes up with a few points on the media ethics of today- her
first point being the social responsibility system for news
reporting. She discusses that media expects the truth from
reporters and journalists. She goes into detail about how
news reporting cannot be dependent on bias groups.
Another point the writer discusses is the libertarian system of
news reporting. This reporting is very limited and restricted
since western media outlets rely mostly on advertisers for
money so, they aim to never conflict. A final point that the
writer discusses is future media ethics. She goes into depth
about how more pressing news is not broadcasted because
what is viewed as more important is the entertaining news.
She then moves on to conclude that news will be spread
through computer technologies and it is unclear what the
future of technology will be.

Life Online
Advantages of Social Networking Online
Communication- Social networking is a great
way to stay in touch with friends and family.
Entertainment- We all get lost in youtube for
hours at a time and it’s fun to view other
people’s blogs.
Acquiring information- We can learn new
things every day just from uploads and posts
that other people share.
5. Advantages and Dangers to
Life Online
In the video entitled “Beware What you Share” by the
Internet Safety Coalition, they make a good use of visuals.
The video uses interesting camera angles to focus on one
person wearing a t-shirt stating things that would be
embarrassing to really wear in the given situation. For
example one of the shirts quoted, “New boss is SO
CREEPY!!! EWW!!!”, meanwhile the boss is in the
background talking with one of his subordinates. The camera
angle makes the girl wearing the shirt the main focus as the
boss becomes secondary focus.
6. Advantages and Dangers to
Life Online
Posting Pictures
People will criticize and make judgments
Making New Friends
You never really know who you’re making
friends with online. You have never seen
them in person.
Avoiding Bullies
You can’t just avoid bullies. Not standing up
for yourself could make you a target for
cyber bullying
7. OnGuardOnline.gov
Looking on the OnGuardOnline website, I found a
video about online shopping. The video explained
that many people today look toward online
shopping for purchases and how most of the times
we look for ratings that suggest we should or
should not buy an item. The main message of the
video was to get people to find credible sources
that could give proper ratings on items. This
information connects to internet safety because it
explains how to safely make online purchases.
8. Social Media and Ethics
“Let’s Establish Ethics Codes for Using Twitter in
Journalism” by Jerry Lanson is about the roomers
that are spread through twitter because of a lack
of research and sourcing. He goes on to explain a
number of roomers that have caused trouble
within the last few years of twitter. A quote to best
sum up this article would be this: “They need to
remember that a reporter's first responsibility is to
check things out—before passing things along.
They need guidelines on when to tweet, how to
tweet and how to check the veracity of tweets”
(Jerry Lanson).
