By “Online” we are not catering to just faculty teaching online, but rather to all faculty who are looking for multimedia tools to deliver course content online to enhance course material regardless of the mode of delivery. We will show you tools to make your content Web friendly. Just because it’s already in digital format doesn’t mean its automatically going to be a good fit “as is” to deliver online. One example we will look at is what to do with large PowerPoint's with animations and video. We will also being looking at tools to create supplemental or review material that students can access outside of the classroom, at their own pace, keeping them connected to the course materialWe also know how time consuming creating course content from scratch can be so we will show you some tools to search for content already made and to enable you to make content that you can reuse and share with colleagues. In the end you will be aware of a variety of tools that will help you to create interactive content that will engage student’s audio and visual learning styles to create a holistic learning experience.
Why Use iSpring? Because….PowerPoints with lots of graphics, animations, and video might work great in the classroom, but they don’t translate well to the online environment. You can strip the animation and video and save them as PDF, but then they loose all that great content. iSpring is an application that can help you preserve all that content and still be Web Friendly…Note:If Win 74 64Bit must download 64bit iSpring (www.ispringsolutions.com/download/ispring_free_x64_6_0.msi)Mars example: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/116405/Mars/index.html

In addition to those third party YouTube video editors…The YouTubeVideo Editor is a free tool in your YouTube Account which allows you to edit various clips and produce an entirely new edited video. Cons:Total Video length must be less than 15 minutes... Which is actually a good thing since it is a good idea to keep videos to succinct topics of around 5 to 7 minutes…
TIPS for using Audacity…Really works well when it is important to hear the words communicated… Or when it’s difficult to communicate the information through the written word alone. Also, it’s sometimes nice to share your voice and sort of humanize the online experience. To record, just go to File>Record Audio, choose your preferences, and press "Start Recording"!What file formats can I import? You can import audio files that are in any of the following formats: .wav, .aif, .mp3, .wma, .m4a, .ogg. In addition, you can use our included Quantum Tracks library, import music from SoundCloud, or sample from the Aviary community's Myna and Roc creations! What file formats can I export? You can save your Myna songs as either an mp3 or a wav.
Screencasting is great for the “virtual classroom,” allowing students to learn or review material at their own pace when they have the time using video tutorials. The advantages of the classroom setting stem from a one to one experience and the ability of the instructor to show the ideas and theories rather than simply explain them in text. The screencast gives you that ability to go beyond static text and images to a show the flow of a process or idea through video, which allows the student to learn by example, seeing every step in great detail. Learning by watching the teacher move through the steps enables them to take note of where everything is in the application or presentation. In most cases the ability to pause or rewind also gives the viewer the power to move at their own pace… something a classroom cannot always offer. There are software based and web based screencasting programs, and there are some free ones out their that do a good jobWe will take a look at two software based ones, one free and one at a premium, and one free web based one.
Camtasia or Jing, Which one and Why?I useJingto quickly take screen-shots and screen-captures to help students, faculty, and staff. If I need to quickly show how to perform some task in Blackboard or anOffice application like PowerPoint or Outlook. With a few clicks I can quickly take a screen-shot or a screen-capture, save and upload it, and have a URL to email or post for students or teachers to view.Camtasia goes way beyond this, I use Camtasia when I need to make in depth how-to videos that will require some editing. With Camtasia you have no time limits, and you can highlight areas of importance with Callouts and add Captions, which is really important to make sure the video is accessible to your audience. Camtasia also has a Zoom and Pan feature which allows you to show only the most relevant parts of you screen and make your point more clearly. Additionally, with instructional videos you can follow up with embedded quiz questions at key intervals throughout the video… A great feature for an educator (students can check and see if they have comprehended key elements of the presentation). Another feature that I use often with faculty is the PowerPoint add-in. This lets you record your Presentation and then upload it online in a Web Friendly video format.
What is Screenr (Articulate E-Learning)?Screenr is a webbased tool that lets you create screencasts without installing any software. It is great for on the fly screencasts. You just click the record button and your screen activity is recorded along with narration from your microphone. Screenr then publishes your screencast in high-definition Flash format. It is also downloadable in mp4 format.Screenr makes it easy to share your screencast on Twitter, YouTube or anywhere else on the web. Even iPhone users can view your screencast.Cons:To publish and access the shareable options you need to sign up via twitter, facebook, google, or yahoo mail accountFive minutes or less
Both Windows and Mac have commands that will allow you to capture an image of a window you have open or a portion of something you are viewing on your computer screen, Print Screen keyThe Print Screen key is often abbreviated to prt sc. For MS Windows computers, pressing the print screen key copies the entire screen to the keyboard. The alt-print screen combination copies only the selected window to the clipboard.Command-shift-3, Command-shift-4There is no print screen key on a Mac, instead users can use the command-shift-3 combination to save copy of the screen to a file. The command-shift-4 combination enables a user to save a portion of the screen to a fileScreenshots don’t always speak for themselves though, and so you might want to add arrows to point to specific portions of the image or highlight things of significance… Here’s three tools that will help you go beyond the basic screenshot…Office 2010 (Free to Faculty at Valencia)Snagit (Available at the Centers)Jing (Free from Techsmith)
