- “All Aspects of your life?” Time management strategies that you use don’t have to be “siloed”into your various “selves”----some people are great time managers as student-selves, but horrible time managers in regards to the rest of their life----so, what happens to the balance?? . The trick is to develop time management strategies that you can use Academic Self Campus Leader Self Family Self Friend Self Significant Other Self What this session is NOT is a goal-setting workshop. We will be focusion on DAILY PRIORITIZING, which you can translate to monthly, yearly, prioritizing based on your goals (whatever those may be….)
- How many of you think you will have “more time” after you graduate? Do you think/hope that you will have more time when the tests are done? Do you think you will be coming in at work at 9 and leaving at 5? That world doesn’t necessarily exist anymore, and although Time management is something that you LEARN. If you are a bad time manager now, you always will be unless you take the time to evaluate what you are doing and taking intentional steps to be more effective with your time.
- This will not be collected. This is for you to use during our session. You are choosing 3 goals---1 personal, 1 academic, 1 club-related. If you don’t quite finish, you might want to re-visit this later.
- Yearly Priorities Monthly Priorities Daily Priorities---although many daily tasks can be minute, the way you prioritize and Keeping the longer –term goals in mind
- If you have a calender, or if you brought a “to do” list, take it out Frosting is good. I like frosting. BUT, if you are making a cake and PRIORITY A & Bs aren’t getting done, there is nothing to put the frosting on…..
- “Do Laundry”---interview tomorrow and I have no clean clothes How does that priority change? Even a minute daily task can take on a higher daily priority due to time sensitivity and overall potential to have an effect on your longer term goals----going to an interview in smelly dirty clothes is bad. TIME OUT---Take a look at your own to do list and prioritize
- Buffering this schedule by 50%== approximately 1 hour of “breathing room” in your schedule. Relax, call your mom, meet your boyfriend or girlfriend for an ice cream….
- Think about what happens when TIME SENSITIVE, OUT OF YOUR CIRCLE OF CONTROL, daily items dominate your What happens to your longer term goals? What happens to the balance in your life? Are you healthy? Re-visit your personal mission statements--- your 3 questions. How can you prevent this from happening? CONSTANT PRIORTIZATION and revisiting your short and long term goals. Think about your club----”survival mode” vs. developing mode
