PREPARING FOR YOUR JUNIOR YEAR ABROAD
Tip One: Know Where You’re Going Familiarize Yourself with Your Destination and Junior Year Home Know What’s Going on Now: Read the News Know What’s There: Buy a Guidebook; check out online sites; get a map and post it on your wall Know What’s Happened there: Acquaint Yourself with the site’s history Look for an email with a site cheat-sheet with site-specific readings, films, and web-resources
Tip Two: Visit the “Embassy”: Cultural Centers at NYU NYU has cultural centers for each of the sites: La MaisonFrancaise DeutschesHaus China House Casa Italiana CLACS King Juan Carlos of Spain (for both BA and Madrid) Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies Get on their mailing list; start attending cultural events
Tip Three: Get Acquainted with the Locals and the Language Speaking Freely City-wide language meet-ups with native speakers and committed practitioners Cultural Exchanges: Request to meet NYU International Students from your site for language and cultural exchange
