3. One of the biggest international events in recent times is the
“United Nations Climate Change 2009 Conference in Copenhagen”
defining the building blocks and the framework for the creation
of a Future Global Agreement on Climate Change. The roadmap
has unanimous support including India & developing countries.
4. India’s involvement in the Event
Hon’ble PM Shri. Manmohan Singh attended the summit along with US
President and over 100 world leaders to reach a consensus on a new
global agreement.
It has been announced that India is ready to cut carbon emission intensity
by 20 to 25% by 2020 on the 2005 levels through a number of policy
measures that will include mandatory fuel efficiency standards.
5. Current Government Perspective
The Union Ministry for Heavy Industries is planning a change in duty
structure to introduce cheaper environment friendly cars in India.
The government has already initiated its talks with Tata Motors, Mahindra
and Maruti Suzuki to develop mini and full hybrid vehicles.
The government is also in the final stages of notifying fuel efficiency
standards for the automobile sector in the country, which will be enforced
from 2011 as per current environment minister Jairam Ramesh.
6. Current Industry Perspective
GM has announced the launch of the electric version of their small car
Spark in association with Reva. Other Auto Majors are also planning to
launch Green vehicles in the coming months.
Most of the Consumer Durable Companies such as Videocon, Panasonic,
LG and others are talking about energy efficient appliances.
Nokia, Tata Indicom are talking about re-cycling of phones. Nokia has
recently unveiled their new green campaign.
Development of Green Buildings is the latest buzzword in the Real Estate
sector.
Wipro, IBM, Avaya & other IT majors are already talking
about Green IT.

10. DSDS 2010
TERI would celebrate the 10th anniversary of DSDS, from 5-7 February
2010 in New Delhi focusing on the overarching theme “Beyond
Copenhagen: new pathways to sustainable development”.
As part of the 3 day summit, following activities will be undertaken:
World CEO Forum: More than 500 CEOs from across the globe will
address how their firms can help solve the climate crisis.
Special Events: Special events on thematic issues & focused topics. More
than 8 Heads of States are expected to attend these sessions.
Music Concert: Musical group Junoon will be performing at DSDS 2010.

The Heads of States and other eminent personalities across verticals are
expected to contribute in the special feature on 4 th Feb.
The feature will be distributed among all the attendees of the event
including the Top Corporate CEOs nationally & internationally.
Dr. R.K.Pachauri will be sending a personal note to the entire Business
