Interview Training
Introduction
 Learning the proper interview techniques is extremely important
in landing the ideal job. Anyone can master the interviewing
process by learning a few basic skills.
 You may have to send out dozens of resumes to get one
interview, so make sure you prepare for it. First of all, you should
study your resume and make sure you can explain what you did
in previous jobs.
 You should also make sure you have the name and title of the
person with whom you will be interviewing. Dress appropriately
for the interview and arrive about 10 minutes early.
 Definition: An interview is a conversation between two or more
people where questions are asked by the interviewer to elicit facts
or statements from the interviewee.
Preparing for the interview
 Success in finding a job starts with preparation. There are three
main areas in which an applicant should focus to prepare for an
interview.
 The first area is to review all previous job experience and be
ready to explain key responsibilities and accomplishments.
 The second thing is to research the company. Learn and
memorize as much as possible about the company; when they
were established, name of the CEO, number of
employees, latest sale figures and other key data's.
 The final area of focus should be to know how to answer some
of the top potential interview questions. Some of these
questions can involve stating short- and long-term career
goals, giving specific examples of current job tasks and
demonstrating how one would approach a difficult situation on
the job.
First Impressions
 The interviewer will start forming their own opinions about
applicants as soon as they meet them.
 That is why it is crucial to dress appropriately. Men should
wear neatly-pressed suits and be properly groomed. Women
should wear a business suit or dress.
 Both should limit the amount of jewellery, cologne or perfume.
Upon the initial greeting, look the interviewer in the eye, smile
and shake her hand firmly.
 Continue to smile and show enthusiasm throughout the
interview.
The Interview
 Some companies will have a more structured format for the
interview, while others will not. It is important to recognize their
style and adapt to it. If there is an opportunity to take control of
the interview, do it. Companies are looking for aggressive
employees who take the lead on key tasks.
 When describing previous experience, be concise and relate it
in terms of what is called an SAR story. This stands for
situation, action and results.
 Explain the particular project, the steps that you took to bring
the project to fruition and the end result. Obviously, the SAR
should reflect a positive experience. The key of the SAR is that
allows the interviewer to visualize the applicant's performance
on that project.
 Knowing a lot about the company in advance will only enhance
your ability to execute this strategy.

  • 2. Introduction  Learning the proper interview techniques is extremely important in landing the ideal job. Anyone can master the interviewing process by learning a few basic skills.  You may have to send out dozens of resumes to get one interview, so make sure you prepare for it. First of all, you should study your resume and make sure you can explain what you did in previous jobs.  You should also make sure you have the name and title of the person with whom you will be interviewing. Dress appropriately for the interview and arrive about 10 minutes early.  Definition: An interview is a conversation between two or more people where questions are asked by the interviewer to elicit facts or statements from the interviewee.

  • 4. Preparing for the interview  Success in finding a job starts with preparation. There are three main areas in which an applicant should focus to prepare for an interview.  The first area is to review all previous job experience and be ready to explain key responsibilities and accomplishments.  The second thing is to research the company. Learn and memorize as much as possible about the company; when they were established, name of the CEO, number of employees, latest sale figures and other key data's.  The final area of focus should be to know how to answer some of the top potential interview questions. Some of these questions can involve stating short- and long-term career goals, giving specific examples of current job tasks and demonstrating how one would approach a difficult situation on the job.

  • 6. First Impressions  The interviewer will start forming their own opinions about applicants as soon as they meet them.  That is why it is crucial to dress appropriately. Men should wear neatly-pressed suits and be properly groomed. Women should wear a business suit or dress.  Both should limit the amount of jewellery, cologne or perfume. Upon the initial greeting, look the interviewer in the eye, smile and shake her hand firmly.  Continue to smile and show enthusiasm throughout the interview.

  • 8. The Interview  Some companies will have a more structured format for the interview, while others will not. It is important to recognize their style and adapt to it. If there is an opportunity to take control of the interview, do it. Companies are looking for aggressive employees who take the lead on key tasks.  When describing previous experience, be concise and relate it in terms of what is called an SAR story. This stands for situation, action and results.  Explain the particular project, the steps that you took to bring the project to fruition and the end result. Obviously, the SAR should reflect a positive experience. The key of the SAR is that allows the interviewer to visualize the applicant's performance on that project.  Knowing a lot about the company in advance will only enhance your ability to execute this strategy.
