2. READING I: Read the following text.
Colour preference depends on the meaning we give to each
colour, for example, blue for a boy and pink for a girl. Bright
colours such as orange, red and yellow stimulate hunger.
Colours transmit two types of emotions. There are the warm
colours, such as red, orange and yellow and the passive or
cool colours such as blue, violet and green.
Humans also respond faster towards warm colours and they are better attention -getters
than cool colours. Some colours are more visible than others and sometimes a
combination of colours can be easier to read. In a supermarket, for example, artificial light
may change the perception of a colour on the package and that must be taken into
consideration when designing it.
Colours have certain symbolic values which may influence people when
buying food. Green, for example, is not a good choice for meat products
but is good for vegetables that come in a can, because most fresh
vegetables are green. a can
The different colours play an important role in a product. It is interesting to note that bright
colours like red are used to make people buy products like Coke or Mc Donald´s
hamburguers.

Volcanoes
A Volcano is a landform, usually a mountain,
where molten rock erupts through the surface of
the planet. It is a mountain that opens to a pool of
molten rock (magma) which is below the surface
of the earth. It is a hole in the Earth and, through
this hole, molten rock and gas erupt. This is called
lava. Magma is liquid rock which is inside a
volcano, while lava is liquid rock that flows out of a
volcano. Lava is very very hot, it is between 1300
and 2200 centigrades. Its colour goes from red hot
to white hot.
There are about 1510 active volcanoes in the world. 80 or more are under the ocean.
Many volcanoes are dormant, showing no signs of exploding, but likely to become active at
some point in the future. Others volcanoes are considered inactive.
Some famous volcanoes are Cotopaxi in Ecuador, Mauna Loa in Hawaii, Stromboli in the
Mediterranean, and Vesuvius in Italy.
Mount Vesuvius is one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world. It has an eruption cycle of
