  1. Welcome to TLC’s AIM program orientation. We enjoy being a school of choice and thrive on being flexible for our communities in San Diego and Riverside counties. When the needs of our families change, we create new options to fill the gap- just like the AIM Program.
  2. AIM’s purpose is for teachers, parents and students to achieve, inspire and motivate each other and the community through their education. It is going to be a hybrid program with 2 days of onsite classes and 3 days of school at home. Families will commit to a semester, 18 weeks, for the program. The program will begin on the first week of school and go until the last week of the semester. We have passionate, credentialed teachers that are leading the way with this program. They will be teaching the 2 days a week as well as meeting with you the parent one-on-one, two to three times a semester. On meeting weeks, your student will work from home for that week while you meet with your EP to turn in work and logs.
  3. This program has multiple benefits including: Personalized, blended learning--- students will be able to move between levels easily in reading and math classes to get the instruction that they need at their current level no matter what grade level they are currently enrolled in. They will also still be receiving that one on one attention at home with you three days a week. Class sizes will be small so students will have more interaction with the teacher as well as have many opportunities through out each week to collaborate with other students The program is using unique cutting edge programs and curriculum that isn’t available to all students at TLC. Teachers will also be planning their instruction through cross-curricular thematic units that will tie each of the core subjects together to make learning real and inspiring to the students.
  4. The environment of this program will revolve around students working together using higher level thinking through hands-on projects to individual and group presentations of learning. With the small class sizes, students will receive a lot of feedback and time to interact with their peers as well as the teacher to motivate them to do their best.
  5. When at home, parents and students will work on their individual social studies curriculum, participate in physical education activities and complete any assignments in Language Arts and Math that were given by the teacher.
  6. The curriculum for this program was carefully selected by a committee of teachers. We wanted students to be able to move between levels easily to foster success for every child. For these reasons, we will be using the following curriculum: Excellence in Writing Skill level based reading program through Accelerated Reader We will be using pulling from multiple programs for phonics, grammar, vocabulary and spelling Math Conceptual Math program Science Diverse curriculum using books, science kits and hands-on equipment for experiments. Social Studies will be selected by each family/student on an individual basis from our Core Catalog.
  7. Here you see a typical onsite class day with the AIM program. We focus on a lot of the Language Arts before lunch when students are more focused to complete more individual and quiet activities if needed. During the leveled reading workshop and math sections of the day, students may be moving between classes if they qualified to be in a different class than their enrolled grade level. On many days, the schedule may mold subjects together when projects and student collaborations are going on as well as the development of cross-curricular thematic units.
  8. What is required of the parents for this program? You will be in charge of all instruction in Social Studies and ensuring students are completing their allotted time of Physical Education activities. In addition, you will oversee completion of assignments in Language Arts and Math. You must attend the meetings that occur 2-3 times a semester to meet with the teacher. At those meetings you will turn in attendance and pe logs as well as all the Social Studies work completed.
  9. So about the great events that TLC offers? Students that are enrolled in the AIM program are eligible to attend any event the school offers as long as it does not conflict with an onsite school day. Many of the events are planned for the other days of the week so students and families will be able to participate in most of those events if they desire. Events do cost a minimal discounted fee for students enrolled at TLC.
