Calcium lignosulfonate is a yellow brown powder extracted from sulfite pulping of wood that is fully water soluble. It has various uses including as a plasticizer in concrete to reduce water needs and increase flowability, in lead batteries to increase lifetime by affecting lead sulfate crystallization, and as a filler and binder in products like tiles, resins, and fodder pellets. It can also be used as a dispersant, to reduce viscosity of mineral slurries, in plasterboard production, and as a binder for powdered materials.
